This is the one and only, infamous Piratas. Wanna stay next to the beaches crazy cheap and without having to buy your drinks from a hostel bar? Do you have any interest... any at all... in experiencing a place run by an actual native, designed and functioning as a reflection of his personal philosophy, instead of another carbon copy replica of the standard hostel business model? Piratas is all about ACTIVE traveling. We try to ensure our guests know all of their options for what to see and do and eat, etc, around this culturally rich city. This is no palace, but we usually have a great, friendly, bohemian crowd... and that´s just what we´re looking for. You don´t have to pay for the chair & umbrella on Ipanema beach, you can bring any booze you want to inside the house, and you´ll never pay more for a tour or activity then it actually costs... we don´t take a commission on anything. Often you´ll pay less than half of what your friends, in other hostels, are paying... for the exact same experience! Think about it.

It´s big ól´dorm rooms, or hammocks in the hallway. Sometimes people sleep on the floor on air mattresses. Sort of like a flop-house. Oh, and now there's a 6-bed Girls Only Dorm... shhh...

From the airport take the big blue REAL bus, cost R$12, takes a while, get off of it after it rolls all the way down Copacabana beach and turns... it just turned onto our street. We´re on the left side on the 3rd block, pirate flag waving in front. You can´t miss it. From the bus terminal take any bus going to Copacabana, usually #´s 126, 127 or 128... the final stop, end of the line, is next to our street. Easy.
