Eixample Rooms, Barcelona, Spain

An excellent Bed & Breakfast. I stayed in a single room at Eixample Rooms in September 2012 whilst attending the Herbalife Extravaganza in Barcelona. This was my first visit to Barcelona. Location and cost were the most important criteria when booking accomodation, and on both counts I was VERY satisfied.

The location of the property, (a period style building of character, has a secure, marble floored entrance, and a period style elevator) is ideally situated near Placa d'Espana which is the terminus for the Aerobus from Barcelona airport. There was also a modern well stocked supermarket nearby (where I bought a 5 litre bottle of water for 1Euro) and easyaccess to the Metro (underground) & public transport, and the City Tour Bus - (an excellent way to see Barcelona!).

The weather was dry and pleasantly warm in late September but I would be concerned about the lack of air-conditioning during mid-summer. The ventilation for one of the single rooms is a window that opens onto a ventilation shaft which forms the gap between 2 adjacent buildings. The window in the other single room opens onto the elevator shaft. (This is the only reason that I gave score of 4 stars for 'Facilities'. During my visit I stayed in both rooms. For this reason I shall book the double room with balcony when I next visit. The accomodation was basic but quiet, spotlessly clean, (including the bathroom)and comfortable.

I was initially concerned that there were no locks on the doors, however, when I met Claudio, the owner of the property, (who has his own apartment within it), I felt reassured as Claudio struck me as an honest, trustworthy, and friendly person and the apartment was secure and in a safe location. I had no concerns at any time about walking alone in the area.

I have no hesitation in recommending this affordable accomodation, and look forward to returning in the future.
