This is a Trusted Review. Why?
We stayed at the Wombat Lounge for one night, and were very impressed.
We had a double room with en-suite, and it was much better and cheaper than all the other hostels we'd been staying in.
The reception staff were great, and it was a great area to hang out in, with big sofas, TV, pool table, vending machines, chill out area, a great vibe.
The bar in the basement was great fun - good atmosphere and happy hours!!
They also do a buffet breakfast for 3.

Close to a train station and has frequent trams running closeby so great location for further travelling and visiting local areas.
All in all, it was a totally great hostel and would defo recommend to anyone. It was better than some hotels we'd stayed at!!

I love Wombats! It is a great hostel chain and you always know what you are going to get. Rooms are comfortable and clean, with modern furniture and ensuite bathrooms. Loved the option of a women's only wing. Plenty of computers with internet access, laundry facilities, great bar and breakfast room. The hostel had plenty of info on local activities, excursions into other parts of Austria and restaurants/bars/nightclubs. Front desk will charge electronics for you and let you borrow guidebooks. Service was great and very professional. The hostel was just a couple of blocks from Westbanhof but a little way outside the historic city center. Plenty of nearby restaurants and bars. I would definitely stay here or at any other Wombats again!

From Westbahnhof
Take the exit 'Gerstnerstra'e' (you should be standing in front of a Chinese restaurant) once you're outside - turn left and walk down Gerstnerstra'e, until you hit the main street (Mariahilfer Stra'e) - look to your right and you can already see the wombats on the opposite side of the street'we are number 137.
From S'dbahnhof
Take tram no. 18 to Westbahnhof. Left of the Westbahnhof train station is 'u'ere Mariahilfer Stra'e. Follow Mariahilfer Stra'e until no. 137.
From Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof
Take tram no. 5 to Westbahnhof. Left of the Westbahnhof train station is 'u'ere Mariahilfer Stra'e. Follow Mariahilfer Stra'e until no. 137.
From the Airport
Most convenient is the shuttle bus to Westbahnhof (6 ', buy ticket from driver). The cheapest option is the S-Bahn to Wien Mitte and subway U3 to Westbahnhof from there (same ticket valid for both, 3.40 '). The 'City Airport Train' (CAT) is a few minutes faster than the S-Bahn, but costs 8 Euros - it also ends at Wien Mitte, from where you'll have to catch the U3 underground to Westbahnhof. The CAT ticket is NOT valid for the U3!
Shuttle bus:
It will drop you off on the northern side of Westbahnhof (which is a huge construction site at the moment) - we are on the southern side of it, so you have to walk around it or right through it, that's faster. Here is how: walk into the station, then past all the platforms - all the way to platform 1 (always straight ahead), there are yellow arrows on the floor with 'zur U-Bahn' and 'zur Stra'enbahn' written on them' that's the right way! Continue walking straight ahead, past platform 1 until you enter the provisional entrance hall of the Westbahnhof, down the escalators in front of you, once you've reach the bottom of the stairs turn right and take the exit 'Gerstnerstra'e' (you should be standing in front of a Chinese restaurant) - turn left and walk down Gerstnerstra'e until you hit the main street (Mariahilfer Stra'e) - look to your right and you can already see the wombats on the opposite side of the street'
S-Bahn or CAT and U3:
Get off the U3 at Westbahnhof, then take the exit 'u'ere Mariahilfer Stra'e'. Once up there, continue walking until no. 137 on the left-hand side of the street.
