Sunnide Resort

Our room was a bit old-fashioned and we were disapointed by the lack of table to support our suitcases, that is a "must have" in such a hotel.
Facilities are very valuable, you can just lie in the Onsen and admire the Mont Fuji.

About Sunnide Resort

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt. Fuji & the good hospitality on offer at Sunnide Resort!

We command a magnificent view over Kawaguchi-ko towards Mt. Fuji. You may enjoy this wonderful scenery from our outdoor open-air public bath, restaurant, guest room & other places. We are located in a forest at the north side of the lake in the same location as the summer house of Duke Shimadzu was located.

Our hotel has 20 rooms: 13 Japanese, 5 Western and 2 combined rooms. All guest rooms have their own bathrooms and toilets. Towels, shampoo and soap are also provided. The rooms, that you can book thru this website, are western rooms only.

It takes 15 minutes by local bus from Kawaguchiko Stn. Also, there's a free pick-up service from Kawaguchiko station between 1:30PM & 5PM on your arrival and departure (advance notice requested for this service).

Please aware that Hot Spring tax(OnsenTax : 150 yen / person / night) will be charged to persons over 13 year-old.

Facilities are very valuable, you can just lie in the Onsen and admire the Mont Fuji. These onsen are the most valuable we saw in Japan with very good shampoo, body soap and good moisturising cream.
Staff couldn't speak english very well, but was perfect helpful and kind.

Thank God for finding this place through Travellerpoint and for its availability on our travel dates in Japan.

When we booked our Twin Private Ensuite (1 night stay), it was without meals. We arrived at Kawaguchiko station by highway bus (Sotetsu) near Yokohama station (2000 yen). We went to Tourist Centre who called the Resort to pick us up.

The resort provides only one time for the transport to Kawaguchiko station after check out - at 10am next day. So if you are catching a highway bus back to Tokyo station, buy the bus ticket for bus departing at 11.30 (Tokyo station). There are also buses that go to Shinjuku station.

You can catch a quick lunch (a bowl of Ramen) on the second floor of a shop cum homegrown restaurant. They allow you to put your luggage on the ground floor while you go up for your lunch upstairs.

Now about Sunnide Resort: It was a lovely 10 minutes ride on the mini-van to the resort. Check-in is efficient. The staff carried your luggage into the reception area. As long as it is before 5.30pm, you can still book your dinner for that night. On a paper, I ticked which dinner choice I want - there are 3 types of Japanese dinner sets ranging from 3500 yen to 6500 yen and 1 type of Western dinner - simple (soup, steak or seafood, salad) costing 1575 yen. Also I tick breakfast for next day (Japanese and Western buffet and cost 1500 yen). I also paid my balance and the onsen charge (150 yen per person). (Note: There are no other eateries or shops around this area. Only a souvenir shop near the reception area - sells some Japanese cookies, etc).

The staff then carried our luggage and brought us to our room. On the way, he pointed to us the dining venue and the onsen (2 floors - lower floor is for ladies, upper floor is for gents). Our Twin ensuite is very near to both places.

At night, the temperature was very cold even in late May. We switched on the heater (radiator) at night. Our window faced the lake. In the afternoon that we arrived, it was cloudy. But next morning, we saw a very clear view of Mount Fuji right from our room window and also the breakfast venue. We also walked along the side paths besides the lake in the early morning and had a very good view of Mount Fuji. The scenery (trees and also some purple Iris flowers and geese on the lake and an occasional eagle up in the sky) - all these made a relaxing atmosphere.

The staff at Sunnide Resort are very friendly and smiling - including the staff at the dining and breakfast area. You feel welcome at this place. It is a simple and spacious place - a good recommended quiet place for holiday. The staff's English may not be powerful, but ought to be enough to communicate the essentials. Try speaking slowly, etc.

Really loved this hotel for its location, its wonderful hot spring, the quality of its food and the excellent service provided by the staff.

The only proviso was that the room in the wing we were in felt and looked at bit tired, and there was a smell of smoking in the room and damp in the bathroom. There was however ample ventilation and light from the extensive windows, and in general the room was a pleasure to be in.

I would have absolutley no hesitation in going back there. In fact, I want to.

It is a beautiful location, on the opposite side (North) of Lake Kowaguchiko, from the town Kowaguchiko. The 45min walk to town, is safe, and a sidewalk, all the way along the lake, and across a long bridge. A taxi costs 2800 Yen to the station.

The only negative is there is no real internet access, except through one communal Vista pc in the reception area, which is very slow loading, and costs 200Y every 10 mins. Do not count on checking your email very often.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially bearing in mind the low price, $55/ night, with a/c, nice bathroom, fridge, kettle etc.

I stayed for one night. The staff were very helpful and professional. It is a perfect place to visit Mt Fuji. It is adjacent to the lake and Mt Fuji dominates the view. In the morning, the reflection of the volcano on the lake was stunning.

The hotel Onsen is FAB. To sit in the bath and have Mt Fuji in the distance is perfect.

The food was well prepared and substantial. I ate the Japanese dinner.

My room was a Japanese style room; and well appointed.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

If arriving by rail. Turn right out of the station and visit the Tourist Information bureau; they will call the hotel who will collect you.
