ngaireboot I chose to book at Kookaburra because it's advertised as being adjacent to Roma St...it's a 25 - 30 min slog away! The initial reception was polite and friendly but the locked security door to reception when attempting to return my keys was a bit off putting. Nice and clean, not very welcoming though. Good value for money though.

aj_mckay A basic, friendly hostel in an old fashioned traditional Queensland house on a residential street about 10 mins walk from the main transit centre (bus & train) and about 15 mins walk to the city center. The hostel had fridges and ceiling fans in the dorm rooms, a nice pool, internet access (1 PC) and a pool room with TV and DVD player etc. While we were there there were some long-term residents from Ireland, England and Germany who seemed to be there together. They were nice enough but if you're not in the mood to get drunk and smoke weed I'd give it a miss! Overall a decent, fairly priced alternative to the bigger 'party hostels' that are all too common in Australia.
