Peter52p got off to a bad start as they say pick up from station but in reality they meet you and put you on a local bus so if you want to get a taxi let them know when booking, apart from that a great quite hostel in fantastic location close to the south gate of the city wall and the drum and bell tower's, they have a big restaurant and bar with reasonable prices but there are a lot of local shops and food places very close and you can pick up a 500ml beer for 2.5 RMB in the shop opposite the hostel they have a good knowledge of of local attractions and speak reasonable English and are very helpful. and 100 MTS away you can book train tickets without having to go to station all in all a good hostel and I would recommend with out any hesitation.

lewisgemma We stayed in one of the budget dorms in the basement, which was ok but a little damp smelling and dusty. If we were to stay again, we would ask for one of the rooms upstairs as these seemed to be a little better, although they were more expensive (approx. 10yuan more per person, per night). Some of the staff were really, really helpful and nice, but some were not so attentive. I think it is pot luck whether you get good service, depending on which member of staff you ask, but you soon learn who is helpful so it's not so bad. The food in the restaurant is very expensive. You obviously don't need to eat in the hostel though, and there were many more lovely and very cheap restaurants within walking distance, and street food vendors in the Muslim quarter, also within walking distance, so it does not have to cost much at all to stay here. This is a fantastic place to meet other like-minded travelers. I can only speak from my personal experience, but for 2 of our 3 nights we went out for a meal with big groups of 8-10 people because the communal areas made it so easy to talk to and get to know other people; this is what I liked most about this place. I would stay again to save money on accommodation and to meet other people.

corentine. the hostel is located just outside the old city, to the south, very close to one of the major point of interest, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Also across the street a very nice and green public garden, built on the site of an old temple. Cafés, bars, restaurant, minimarkets next door. Overall the Hostel is of excellent value, my room was a single use, overlooking the main road but at night not much traffic. The only problem was the noise due to unusual circumstances as the late World Cup matches kept the fans awake and toasting late at night in the rear yard. Air conditioning, double bed tatami, clean. Shared sanitaries also very clean and well functioning. Interesting design, living room and kitchen very cool, relaxing and cosy, with Internet and 2 PCs available for free. Staff very nice and helpful. Several bus stops just in front. Definitely a place to go if you need to breathe and take a rest from the extremely lively city of Xian.
