lewisgemma We stayed in one of the budget dorms in the basement, which was ok but a little damp smelling and dusty. If we were to stay again, we would ask for one of the rooms upstairs as these seemed to be a little better, although they were more expensive (approx. 10yuan more per person, per night). Some of the staff were really, really helpful and nice, but some were not so attentive. I think it is pot luck whether you get good service, depending on which member of staff you ask, but you soon learn who is helpful so it's not so bad. The food in the restaurant is very expensive. You obviously don't need to eat in the hostel though, and there were many more lovely and very cheap restaurants within walking distance, and street food vendors in the Muslim quarter, also within walking distance, so it does not have to cost much at all to stay here. This is a fantastic place to meet other like-minded travelers. I can only speak from my personal experience, but for 2 of our 3 nights we went out for a meal with big groups of 8-10 people because the communal areas made it so easy to talk to and get to know other people; this is what I liked most about this place. I would stay again to save money on accommodation and to meet other people.

Peter52p got off to a bad start as they say pick up from station but in reality they meet you and put you on a local bus so if you want to get a taxi let them know when booking, apart from that a great quite hostel in fantastic location close to the south gate of the city wall and the drum and bell tower's, they have a big restaurant and bar with reasonable prices but there are a lot of local shops and food places very close and you can pick up a 500ml beer for 2.5 RMB in the shop opposite the hostel they have a good knowledge of of local attractions and speak reasonable English and are very helpful. and 100 MTS away you can book train tickets without having to go to station all in all a good hostel and I would recommend with out any hesitation.

Peter52p Had a bad start but once we sorted the problem out every think else was great. Fantastic location close to big wild goose pagoda and the serrounding park is a must plenty of variety for places to eat close by and around 15 rmb by taxi to the bell and drum towers. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only thing that spoilt Xian was the weather cold and wet but I could hardly blame the hostel for that. Overall a great place to stay. Only negative was there where hardly any English speaking guests staying there. And also lacked a bit of at atmosphere. But would stay again.
