We didnt check in here till about 1am and we checked out at about 8am so we werent here for long. It was a mission getting all our stuff up all those stairs as it usually is in any hostel. We had a twin room which consisted of a set of bunk beds with very small blankets, a little plug in heater and just enough room to put our suitcases down to open. This was the only backpackers that we visited in new zealand that didnt provide us with towels, so we didnt use the showers.

The popular New Excelsior Backpacker is located in an enchanting historic building right in the heart of Christchurch's new urban hub, the High Street shopping and entertainment lanes.
This hostel offers an warm and friendly environment with all the benefits of an inner-city location. It is nestled amongst popular bars, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping, and is only minutes walk to Cathedral Square, the arts centre, museum and art gallery, public transportation, movie theatres and supermarkets.
All our spotlessly clean rooms are non-smoking. 24-hour check-in can be arranged upon demand, and guests have 24-hour key access to the hostel.
We are small enough to provide a relaxing and comfortable stay, yet large enough to boast some great facilities. The New Excelsior has a large kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable lounge room with a big screen tv, free videos and DVDs. We offer a guest laundry, secure bike lock-up, book exchange, free linen, 24-hr fast internet access and free luggage storage.
There is a free barbeque available for use on our large outdoor sun deck perfect for socialising with friends! Start your day by heading downstairs to the neighbouring cafe for a lazy breakfast and cappuchino. Later on, you can enjoy a few drinks at the New Excelsior Sports Bar.

This was the only backpackers that we visited in new zealand that didnt provide us with towels, so we didnt use the showers. I think the toilets were shared toilets and very very cold. I didnt use any of the other facilities that they might have had here as we left quite early. It was smack bang in the centre of town as far as i could tell. Heaps of night life going on around us on the saturday night that we arrived. And the Apex car hire office was conveniently just around the corner. You are definately paying for the location here than the facilities. Sufficient for a few hours kip though. Thanks
