We stayed here because we were taking the MacBackpackers three day tour of the Highlands and it was owned by the same company. They also own two other hostels in town. It was very basic, but had a great location. Next time I might try one of the other two hostels that they own instead though. The company itself is great, but this one seems to be populated by long term residents and it's hard to navigate as a visitor.

Errichtet in 1564!!!!....can glauben Sie ihm? Und empfohlen innen über einen Dutzend Führer meldet dieses ist historischsten Edinburghs und der Vorlage, WandererHerberge an. Wir sind im Herzen der ALTEN STADT nah an dem SCHLOSS, das NIGHT-LIFE und der Bus, Flughafenbus und Zugstationen. FÜR ZWANZIG JAHRE HABEN WIR HERUM 300.000 WELTREISENDEN GEBOTEN (nicht alle gleichzeitig offensichtlich:-)), wir wissen welche Leute mögen, Sauberkeit, großer Service, bequemes fühlen und besonders.... ein großes vibe!! (Sie finden keine IKEA Möbel hier! noch irgendwelche High School Gruppen) Kommen Sie Ihren Feiertag an diesem Wandererhaus vom Haus genießen. He, haben wir auch ein beträchtliches Jobs Nachricht-Brett für Sie Reisende, auf Bargeld kurz zu erhalten. ... und die meisten Morgen lassen die MACBACKPACKERS Busse von unserer Tür-stepfor die Hochländer, wenn Sie Nessie oder die Insel von Skye usw. besuchen möchten

High Street Hostel is Edinburgh's original independant backpackers hostel, (open since 1985). Located in the heart of Edinburgh's old town just off the historical Royal Mile, (midway between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace). The 400yr old building offers lots of character as well as offering a fun chilled out atmosphere for the weary traveller.
Located centrally we are only 5-10 minutes from the Edinburgh castle, Princes Street, Waverley train Station, the bus station, Holyrood Palace and the Grassmarket. The City's wonderful night life also just round the corner.
Your room is cleaned daily, with a personal locker in most rooms including a safe for your piece of mind. Otherwise you have access to the receptions 24 hour safe. Our large self-catering kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need.
We have free wi-fi in our reception lounge, and internet access for a small charge. Our large lounge area enables you to sit and relax, chat with ther travellers, or even have a game of pool.
Our friendly staff are always willing to answer questions about things to do in and around Edinburgh and Scotland. We are also able to help you book accommodation in one of our other hostels throughout Scotland. We are a Macbackpackers tour pickup and sale point.
Please note that our Check in time is not until 2pm, however you are most welcome to drop your bags off earlier and still use our facilities.

CARBON NEUTRAL - ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY. twelve years ago we bought A 75+ hectaire woodland that absorbs more than the total CO2 emissions from fuel used in our hostel and also the other properties in our small MacBackpackers hostel and bus co chain. We also try our best to re-cycle everything (with your help) and our electricity is all sourced from renewable non-nuclear supplies. Stay with us for a great holiday and minimal environmental impact!!!!
