Das Hotel Bolivar liegt im Herzen des historischen Stadtteils San Telmo; nur 10 Minuten zu Fuß vom Zentrum entfernt und ebenso gut erreichbar mit Bussen und U-Bahn.
San Telmo ist ein sehr lebendiges Viertel mit vielen bunten Bars, Restaurants, Parrillas (typische Grill-Restaurants) und Tango-Cafés, die zu einer Pause einladen. Zwischendurch kann man in den zahlreichen Geschäften für Antiquitäten oder Kunsthandwerk bummeln. Besonders eindrucksvoll ist der Markt am Sonntag; neben den Antiquitäten auf dem Plaza Dorrego, bieten auch zahlreiche kleine Design- und Kunstahndwerk-Stände ihre Ware an.
San Telmo lohnt sich nicht nur für einen Einkaufsbummel oder ein gutes argentinisches Steak, sondern auch seine Geschichte und historischen Bauten sind seinen Besuch wert. Während man durch die gepflasterten Straßen und schmalen Gassen schlendert, fühlt man sich in eine andere Zeit versetzt. Viele der stuckbesetzten Häuser mit ihren unendlich langen Innenhöfen sind heute Ateliers bzw. Galerien oder man kann sie besichtigen, wie z.B. el pasaje de La Defensa.
Neben den Sehenswürdigkeiten in San Telmo warten noch viele andere auf Sie. Die meist besuchten sind: Plaza de Mayo (Regierungsplatz), Obelisco, Avenida 9 de Julio („die breiteste Straße der Welt“), Corrientes (Theaterstraße), Florida (Einkaufsstraße), Puerto Madero (neu restaurierter Hafen), La Boca (altes Tangoviertel, bunte Häuser), Reserva Ecológica (Naturschutzgebiet). Alle Plätze sind vom Hotel gut zu Fuß zu erreichen.

I have mixed thoughts about this place. As others have said it feels like an old grand dame that has seen better days. Crumbling with tiny ensuites and many rooms with no windows only light entering through top of door from courtyard. When I first saw the dark gloomy room I wanted to turn around and leave again but this place has a way of growing on you and ended staying longer than intended. The best thing about thing about it(other than the price) is its location. In the heart of San Telmo lots of restaurants, bars, cafes nearby. A few blocks to subway and the rest of the city is yours!

We had an amazing stay. The hotel is in an excellent location, though some streets are kind of deserted and weird at night. It has a lot of character. The staff is really friendly and helpful. One or maybe two staff members speak English, so communicating and getting info on how to get around with them is easy. The rooms are spacious and fairly clean, but hot (there are noisy ceiling fans). Overall, we really enjoyed the hotel, the city, and the friendly porteños.

Good place to sleep, if you plan to stay out and about must of the day, which is what I did.
Balcony rooms are good, if you don't mind traffic noise, single rooms with private bathroom are ok if you don't mind confined spaces.
For single travelers the place could use a tv. and cable.
Overall the place could use upgrades on every aspect, perhaps air conditioning for the summer and heaters for the winter.
Book it for one or two nights and if you like it, stay.

Its very old and worn, but I was happy with it and thought it was good value. I had a single room with ensuite and felt comfortable there. The guys on the front desk were pleasant and helpful. It was reasonably clean and I like the location in San Telmo.

This Hotel is more of a Hostel for adults. It has private rooms with bath or without and is very secure. The staff were very helpful and the hotel is located very close to a lot of restaurants, street life, and night life. It is very basic, but the price is right.

Charming if basic hotel. Great location (San Telmo was our favourite part of Buenos Aires). Neat old building with heaps of character, friendly staff. Facilities pretty basic - esp kitchen. Nice clean bathrooms. Excellent value for travellers on a budget who can do without luxuries. Would definitely stay there again.
