The hostel itself was clean and for 15 dollars a night is about what you would expect. I only slept and showered there and spent most of the time at the beach. My only problem with the place, is that I sent an email asking only about the cost to cancel one of my rooms because I had a friend back out and the owner cancelled both the rooms I reserved without ever emailing back any cost.

Hotel De Haan opened in the summer of 2001 under the ownership of Tom and Yorleny. Thanks to the fact that Tom is Dutch and Yorleny is Costa Rican, the hotel provides a typical Costa Rican atmosphere with a touch of Dutch hospitality.
Ideal for surfers and backpackers looking for affordable accommodation the hotel offers the following:
- 4 big rooms and 8 small rooms
- Swimming pool with jacuzzi

- Cheap tours and tourist information
- Cooking facilities for guests (save money and cook together with other guests)
The hotel is located in the center of Jaco and only 50 meters from the beach. Jaco is the perfect place to begin and end your vacation in Costa Rica, just one and a half hours from the airport. In Jaco you will find: lots of bars and cafes including internet cafes, casinos, discotheques, banks, medical facilites etc....

The hostel itself was clean and for 15 dollars a night is about what you would expect. I only slept and showered there and spent most of the time at the beach. My only problem with the place, is that I sent an email asking only about the cost to cancel one of my rooms because I had a friend back out and the owner cancelled both the rooms I reserved without ever emailing back any cost. Luckily for me another friend had reserved a room and myself and my other 3 friends stayed in her room for an extra ten dollars. Also for the sake of fairness I only exchanged emails with the owner and my friend who speaks better Spanish than myself spoke to him on the phone - I never spoke face to face with him about this matter. So, I guess if you have any questions via email they need to be written in Spanish and don't expect them to owe up much to their mistakes.

Great place to stay, great location and was super nice and helpful. We quite a few interesting people and the best part was I could wake up, grab my board and a quick walk I would be on the beach.

$15 per person for tiny barebones room, two beds, period. Did have A/C and private bath with cold-water sink, hot-water shower, as advertised, but missing slats underneath mattress make for very uncomfortable night. Reception was friendly but did not speak English.
