A majority of the street names in the Hanoi Old Quarter start with the word 'hang'. Hang means merchandise or shop. The guild streets were named for their product, service or location. Gia Thinh hotel is located in Hang Bac Street, one of the oldest streets in Vietnam, dates from at least the 13th century. Bac means silver, and appropriately, this street started as a silver ingot factory under the reign of Le Thanh Tong (1469-1497). The hotel has 17 rooms acessed by an elevator and one staircase. All rooms are airconditioned and equiped with modern furniture, ID telephone, cable TV, personal computer with ADSL connection, mini bar, electronic safe.... Each room has private bathroom with bath-tub, hot shower, hair-dryer.

In my opinion the Gia Thinh is the best inexpensive hotel in Hanoi - everything works here! First of all, the rooms are beautiful (photos on TP do not do it justice), all rooms have new ADSL computers for 24 hr usage, it's super clean, elevator, quiet, wonderful breakfast buffet, and the staff here must all have gone to charm school because they anticipate your needs before you even ask. I've already booked for '09, and they even lowered the rates by $5. Did I mention that it's in the best location in the Old Quarter - great shopping, restaurants, a brewpub within shouting distance.
