German and Maria Elena, a friendly, young, local couple have designed and set up a comfortable, homely hostal. They have thought of all the facilities necessary to ensure that your stay is as active or relaxing as you wish.
The wooden house is immaculate and welcoming with the garden, the terrace and most of the bedrooms offering an amazing view of the volcano. It is surrounded by the mountains of the indigenous community of Quelhue and the national park of Villarrica, simply magnificent.
In winter the log fires add an extra special touch to an already special place.
There are different types of rooms to suit different requirements, singles, doubles, triples or dormitory style with and without private bathroom but all with the same quality of service, daily room cleaning, towels and slippers provided, free internet access and WiFi and much.much more.
The hostal can arrange most of the outdoor activities, with its own team of guides and equipment, in this way the activity is personalised and the fun and safety guaranteed. These activities include climbing the Villarica volcano, white water rafting and others.
Important Information before making your reservation
The hostal is very sought after and only has 10 rooms, we strongly recommend reserving in advance
The hostal is located in a quiet residential area, and although it is only 2 blocks from the TurBus station, it is 5 blocks and about 8 minutes walk to the town centre, if this is too much for you, please do not reserve a room.
The hostal is lovely and extremely clean. In order to maintain this standard there are a couple of rules which are simple and easy to follow; No outdoor shoes inside, Eat, drink and smoke in the designated areas and not your rooms and no washing your clothes in the bath as there is a laundry service.
Check out is at 10.00 from your room and at 12.00 from the hostal, there is a free luggage store service, alternatively to stay another half day (subject to availability) is only 5 euros
For fire safety reasons the hostal kitchen will be closed at 00.00 and open again at 06.00
It is a special place to stay and experience some of what Pucon has to offer, but it is not a party hostal, it is for relaxing and meeting new friends
We do not accept credit cards, only Chilean Pesos. US dollars or Euros can be accepted at the owners discretion

The new hostel was like staying at a 4 star hotel and very central to all. Recommend it for those who get to spend a few nights in Pucon. The kitchen facility and beds are fantastic
it is worth paying teh extra price for the quality and it is in a quiet area of town
Hostal Donde German -- we stayed in the old and new hostel for 4 days total. We had a very negative experience here. When we wanted to check out, the owner German presented us a bill that had different prices from what we agreed on. Both my girlfriend and I were surprised since at first sight he seems like a honest down-to-earth guy. The actual difference was quite minor, $106.800 pesos instead of $99.300 pesos. When I tried to talk to him about the fact that we orally agreed on a different price, he got all rigid and arrogant and said that this is how they do it and I WILL need to pay their price; he was not open to negotiation. At that time my problem was not the minuscule price difference but the way he acted and would not see my point of view. I filed a complaint with the tourism office but their phone call to them did not change his attitude. I gave him $100.000 in cash (more than I owed) and a copy of my Chilean ID, and wanted to leave the hostal, he physically blocked my way out of the door, demanding full payment. He would not let me leave the hostal, threatening with a physical fight. We called the police and explained the situation; (at that time about 15 new travellers arrived at the hostal and witnessed this ridiculous scene). The police determined that he had no right to demand the higher price and no right to physically refuse us to leave the hostal. We left immediately. We are very upset about his behavior and urge other travellers to avoid this hostel. His wife, who runs the new three-storey house on Brasil street, seems particularly money-hungry and rigid in terms of house rules, complements our conclusion.
Instead, we celebrated an awesome New Years party at the new Hostal Casa Chica, Palquin 272, which the friendly owner of El Refugio opened recently. The folks there are a gem and they deserve to be your top pick. We booked the Volcano tour with them for $34.000 (cheapest price in town, as opposed to $45.000+transportation costs at Donde German) and had a blast.
