Hostal Mundial is located in the very center of the city, next to the most important museums like Reina Sofia National Art Museum (which is just around the corner)or Prado Art Museum (a few steps away), in a safe neighborhood full of restaurants, cafeterias, tapas bars etc..
The hostal has been fully refurbished in 2009, and offers clean and comfortable private rooms, single double or triple, all with a sink inside, some rooms with ensuite bathroom and some others with shared bathrooms.

Location a bit outside the 'real city center', but only 15' walk to the center, and metro around the corner.
Advantage was: no street noise in the eves and nights.
Room was very small, at the minimum, but okay for just sleep and take shower.
Everyday cleaning of the room if you wish.
In the night there was a lot of noise from the neighbouring rooms, we were sleeping close to the shared bathrooms, and people using them made lot of noise.
We forgot to print our reservation, but that was no problem, they were very helpfull to find out who we were, and what we paid already, and the bill was correct.
Museum Reina Sofia is on your doorstep, as well as the Prado, and the park, and all of them are worth a visit, Reina Sofia is great - take a whole day or even more to go there.
Nice Cafeteria between Hostel Mundial and Reina Sofia: Cafeteria Pando - Glorieta Emperador Carlo v. 6 - Menu del Dia: € 10 pp, 2 dishes, coffee or dessert, wine included ( a whole bottle for 2 persons!!)

Luis was incredibly helpful. I got in really late (11pm) and he checked me in quick so I could get some sleep. When I couldn't reach the WiFi in my room, Luis got me into another room where the connection was stronger. The building is in a great location next to Atocha and the Retirement Park. Overall, this was a great hostel that I would definitely stay at again.
