I stayed at Cecil Hotel two times, once for one night, the second time for
two nights in April 2009. Very close to Monastiraki, this is a good location.

Cecil Hotel occupies a beautifully renovated neo-classical building in the heart of old Athens, close to the Ancient Market. It is located near the most central pedestrian street of Athens and it is 25 km from the nearest airport, E. Venizelos, and 8 miles from the Piraeus port. The Acropolis, the Lycabettus hill, the Philopappus hill, the Syntagma square and other monuments, museums and galleries are some of the countless sights that are very close to the Hotel Cecil. The peaceful picturesque neighborhood of Plaka is only a short distance away. The post office, the National Telecommunication Company and the metro station in Monastiraki can be found only 100 meters away from the entrance of the hotel. Furthermore, Cecil Hotel offers easy walking access to numerous tavernas, restaurants and many places like cafes, nightclubs and cinemas, offering all forms of daytime and evening entertainment for which Athens is famous.

The rooms were better than I had expected, especially the first time when
I got a room on the 4th floor. The second time there was a strange,
very unpleasant smell in the room so I had to keep the window open - a
problem because it was on the first floor and there is a lot of noise coming
from the Athenas street. Breakfast is quite acceptable. Considering the
price (40-45€) I would rather not complain.
