Backwater Heritage is a traditional Keralan home stay where you can relax in its beautiful garden with steps to the river bank. The rivers surrounding the house were the backdrop for Arundathi Roy's novel, 'God of Small Things'. As well as the traditional Keralan food to enjoy, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy swimming, fishing, boating and canoeing. Those who are feeling more energetic can venture out on the labrynth of rivers and go swimming, canoeing and even have a go fishing as well as spotting the local wildlife including kingfishers, woodpeckers and cuckoos. There is also a 400 year old snake boat which still takes centrepiece in the annual snake boat races to see that Xavier looks after!
Xavier and his wife Lovely welcome all their guests with Keralan hospitality including of course a welcoming glass of coconut water! Lovely makes traditional food for vegetarians and non-vegetarians and is more than willing to adapt the level of spiciness. Breakfast is included in the daily rate and other meals are provided at just INR200 per head.
Back Water Heritage has 5 large double en-suite bedrooms, extra beds can also be put into the rooms. Each room has a large ceiling fan but a/c is also available for an additional fee. The bathrooms are spotless fitted with hot showers.
As well as verandas where guests can shade from the sun there is also a dining room and lounge room for the guests. Breakfast is included in the daily rate and lunch and dinner are provided at just INR200 per head.
