The building is a 16th century palace with a beautiful terrace on a main street in Venice. We offer FREE DINNER every night, which is a great opportunity to sit around the table with fellow travelers and make new friends.
After dinner, the staff typically take everybody out to experience the Venetian nightlife. You 'll find out that it's always helps to be with a local in Venice... it is not the easiest city to walk around!
So, if you're not ready to have fun and you're not a social person, please don't book your stay at A Venice Fish, it wouldn't be the place for you.
Please note that this is a youth hostel so you have to be under the age of 40 to stay with us.
A Venice Fish is located in the Cannaregio district, the perfect place for shopping, and right in the middle of the city. We are also just a 10 minute walk from the Santa Lucia Train Station, Piazzale Roma, and Rialto Bridge, a minute walking distance to the Venice Casino, and 20 minutes from Piazza San Marco-close to all the most important sites of Venice including waterbuses, gondolas, and water taxis.
A Venice Fish has a private entrance and a fun atmosphere. We have multilingual staff, that will ensure a fascinating stay in Venice! Female and mixed rooms are available as well as a very big common room where people can socialize, listen to music, play games, read... relax. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. It's just like home.
We require payment in cash upon arrival. Please notice, after check-in, there is no refund under any circumstance. Guests can cancel their reservation free of charge up to 48 hours before arrival. Deposits paid are non refundable.
Your arrival time must be between 9:00 am and midnight. We don't have a 24 hour reception, so please notify us if your plans change either by phone or email! Lock out is from 11:00am - 2pm for cleaning. Linen is available for £3, so remember to bring sheets or a sleeping bag with you if you want to save your money! Pillows and blankets are provided to all guests.

IMPORTANT STARTING ON THE 24/08/11:
The municipality of Venice recently approved a law,which impose EVERY hotel,hostel,or b&b in the City to charge every guest an extra TOURIST TASK.
The amount is of 1,00euro a day during the high season,which goes from the 1st April till the 31st of October,and the following dates:
-Carnival(4thFebruary-22nd February)
-23rd dicember-8th january
The rest of the year,so during low season,it's 0,50 euro a day.
(Venetians tried to fight against this unfair law so hard,but unfortunatley we coudn't make it!)

RSSI am usually way more positive and even headed about these reviews, but I have to be honest, this was by far the worst hostel we stayed in during our whole euro-trip. Most of the other travellers had the same view.
Wasnt very clean, the staff dont really give a toss about running thigs, just having a good time.The location was good, and the free dinners were great and sociable, other than that I have nothing. I wouldnt personally stay here again, and I'm a person wo doesnt mind 'ruffing it' a bit, and can USUALLY find the good aspects of a place to enjoy, it was just such a poorly run operation!
DO NOT STAY AT VENICE FISH! If I could give them a -100% rating I would. This place was absolutely disgusting, completely run down, should probably have been condemned, by far the worst place I have ever stayed in. The manager was, to state it bluntly, a complete ignorant ass hole. Upon arrival we asked if we could check in and he looked at us blankly for 5 minutes before saying anything, and than decided that his time on facebook was up and that he would actually do his job and help his paying customers that were standing there trying to check in.. and this is just the start.. He stuck myself and the 8 others in the smallest room in the place right off of the main common room. The room had 2 sliding glass doors with half of the panels missing, and taped up to cover the holes. When you closed the doors there was about a 6" gap on both sides of the doors and the room was locked with a padlock. After showing us our room he than told us to leave (mind you it was pouring outside) so that he could put the beds in the room and that they would be in by 3. We came back around 5 and he was doing absolutely nothing and there we're still no beds in our room. He than angerly set up the beds and we got settled in the best we could. There are only 2 bathrooms to share between the entire hostel, and there is a curfew in the morning that they kick you out for "cleaning" at 10am...therefore you have to rush to share the bathrooms if you want to shower before you get kicked out. The free dinner they advertise was not served until 9pm.. after and extremely loud party went on in the common room right off of our room where everyone could hear us and see us through our sheer curtains and half broken glass doors.
The next morning we woke to find bed bugs. We packed up all of our things while he took down all of the beds and put all of the mattress' back in the storage room with all of the other mattress'. We demanded that he give us back our money for the second night, he refused saying that there is a policy of no returns, and to come back at 2 after he had had the time to talk to the "real manager" We came back for our deposit and he started to blame us saying that we brought the bugs in and that it was our fault. He threw us out of the hostel screaming at us and slammed the door.
Literally, a stay from hell. So as I said before DO NOT STAY AT VENICE FISH.

Had a great time at A Venice Fish, was worried about the bad reviews when I got there, but actually had a great time. The hostel is in a great location and I found that the staff were brilliant. It's a really sociable place as well, met loads of great people!
