Turtle Hostel, Victoria, Canada

As soon as I arrived I had to pay for the hostel. The staff wanted me to pay cash & I had to ask for receipt to get it. (It seemed they wanted to avoid tax).
Then I was shown the room. It was horrible. It smelled & the bed sheets were dirty.

I decided not to stay & I went to get my money back, but after long debate I was only given 50% refund & not the whole refund.

I saw that the hostel provides accommodation also to workers (construction workers I guess). I don't think this is a hostel, but a cheap accommodation for workers.

In addition the staff is very unpleasant & not helpful at all.
Don't go to the hostel is my best recommendation.

I heard great reviews about this hostel and the pics looked cool, but then we got there.
The owner and his wife didn't really speak good english and were hard to understand. The rooms smelled and were tiny, when I opened the door I hit the bunk bed and had to squeeze in the door. The bathrooms were used by EVERYONE! no separate bathrooms for guys and gals. shower in only one of them, and even that didn't look good. Note to girls if you are staying at this hostel get there before dark because this hostel is located in a not so good part of town, I didn't feel safe walking from downtown to the hostel and I had two friends with me.

After looking at some previous reviews of this hostel, they don't really do it justice. The turtle is one of the better hostels I have stayed in, I have no gripes and would recommend it to anyone.
