I thought it was pretty good value for money, despite the fact that no meals were available. The owners were friendly although it would be worth being prepared with some useful phrases in japanese.

Great location for a basic ryokan, a few minutes away from Kyoto train station. I f you don't expect breakfast nor dinner to be served in your room but simply look for a place reasonably priced which is clean and comfortable, with still a touch of Japanese ways of living (tatami + futon + tea, etc.), then it can be a good option. If you expect something more atmospheric, with views over a beautiful Japanese Garden, a traditional bathtub in wood and stones, or a hostess in kimono! there might be better options. It is a family run house, where we enjoyed flexiblity in terms of coming in and out - a good place to crash out after a long day of walking.

Great place to stay at, really quite, near from the train and metro stations, a big temple, the Kyoto tower and a Seven Eleven in case you need to use an ATM. The hotel is fine and the owners very helpful. It takes 30 minutes walking to get to downtown.

Great location. They need better directions: walk straight out of the train station (keeping on the right side of the street), go to the end of the large temple compound, then make a right down the alley. It's the 2nd house on the left and has a little sign in English.

There wasn't always an English-speaker on duty, but they really tried to take care of me as best they could even if we couldn't understand each other. The room was very cosy and warm on a cold day, and the family that runs it is amazingly nice - I was new to Japanese-style lodging so they walked me through the whole thing. Breakfast was delicious, too. And way more than 1 person could eat.

The place definitely has the feel of budget (but not "cheap") lodgings, so don't go if you're expecting ultra-deluxe spa-style accommodation, but if you're going for a nice, relaxed homestyle stay, this place is great.
