Although this riad is located within walking distance of the main square and therefore close to the main tourist attraction, but I have to say that the positive ends here.

I travelled with my fiance's family in December 2009, there's 5 of us and we booked 3 rooms. We were greeted warmly by the lady who runs the riad, Kenza on the night we arrived. Upon checking in, we told Kenza that my fiance's dad is hungry and we want to know the way to the main square to find some food. (The riad doesn't prepare dinner unless booked in advance.) She insisted on us sitting down to have a chat and some mint tea first. We politely do so but kept telling her that we really would like to get going because it was already 9pm which is quite late. That seemed to have fallen on deaf ears because she was taking her time & chit-chatting away. We were not sure whether it was her way of showing hospitality but we had to interrupt her several times to tell her that we would really like to go get some food. Finally she was a bit annoyed and showed us the way to the market.

When we got back from the market that night we were requested to hand our passports to her, she said something about records for tourist police. We did so, thinking that she would give them back to us the next day after she has taken the details that she needs. But we didn't manage to get them back until the night before we checked out & she gave us a lot of grief as well!

We were ignored by her in the middle of a conversation when some french-speaking guests came back, she just put everything down and went and greet them. Definitely gave us the impression that just because we can't speak french we were not treated as nicely as the other guests.

My fiance and I are both professionals working in London, yet just because she hasn't heard of my job title before she appeared to have doubts about whether we are able to pay for our accommodation! We suspect that was one of the reason she held our passports for that long. Needless to say, we were not comfortable with our passports held by a stranger for that long and when we had trouble trying to get them back from her we nearly wanted to call the police! And she was never clear about why she kept our passports for that long.

Yes, it was that bad... Our experience left a bad taste in our mouth and we vowed never to go back again. Perhaps if you speak French you might fare better than us....

It was a pleasant stay. Khanssa is a great host, ready to help travellers with advice and suggestions. She makes every effort to explain about the city, country, and culture.
The first of two nights there were bugs in the bed. They didn't bite, but were crawling on the sheets. I complained to Khanssa, the sheets were changed, and there were no problems the second night.
The breakfast was good, but no variation from one morning to the next, whereas the riad next door, where my relatives stayed, had a variation of breakfast each morning.
I would recommend this riad to budget travellers.
