La pension de famille La Sienna, à l'ameublement très élégant, se situe dans un bâtiment d'avant-guerre ensoleillé, en grès brun, dans la rue West 123rd Street. Les jours d'été, l'entrée de notre pension s'illumine de roses, de lavande et de fleurs Mandela. Nous accueillons personnellement chacun de nos clients et nous efforçons de leur proposer un cadre propre et relaxant. Toutes les chambres ont leur propre verrou. Nos serviettes sont douces et moelleuses ; nous utilisons une lessive à la lavande pour nos draps. Chaque client dispose de sa propre clé, afin de pouvoir entrer et sortir à sa guise. Notre pension est placée sous surveillance vidéo 24 heures sur 24, sous le regard attentif et courtois de notre gardien. Cet endroit est idéal pour les voyageurs souhaitant se détendre après leurs visites.
Grâce à notre ambiance amicale, vous vous sentirez comme chez vous ! Vous ne voudrez plus partir ! Nos clients peuvent choisir une cuisine et une salle de bains partagées ou individuelles.

this is an ideal location for anyone wanting to visit the city and also have a peaceful rest at night, being a lone female traveller i was a little worried about being in harlem but once there had no worries about it.

The guesthouse is charming but indeed old -- the prewar description of the property is quite accurate. Upon arrival, we found the steep, narrow stairs up to our room on the 2nd floor a bit daunting, considering our heavy luggage. But Manny (the caretaker) came to the rescue without a moment's hesitation so, problem solved very easily.
The owners keep the place immaculately clean, especially the bathroom and toilet. Couldn't find a speck of dirt on the floor of the bedroom where we stayed for five nights, although of course, since this isn't a hotel or a B&B, a thorough clean-up and change of linens daily wasn't expected. So the degree of cleanliness was a welcome surprise.
Staying in La Sienna was like having your own apartment in the city. The kitchen is well-equipped but don't forget to bring your own shampoo and body soap, as those aren't provided. There are some handwritten reminders (for turning off lights and leaving doors open) posted in some areas that somehow make you feel like a student in a dorm room or like you're living with an OC relative but it's really understandable why they have to be there and actually add to the whole experience of staying there.
I think Manny and Yvette are doing a great job with the place and, I must say, they do have fine taste. Wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay in La Sienna again. But if you're fussy or want more space (or have heavy bags), the pretty studio on the first floor is a much better option than the smaller rooms upstairs.

The place is not bad, even if I expected better reading the other reviews, (bed is so unconfortable we got terrible back ache) but the worst part is the owner.
At our arrival my sister and I were asked to sign a paper that we wouldn’t smoke in the apartment. After some day, as we came back to the apartment during the afternoon we were stopped at the door from Yvette and Manny and told ( I would say yelled!) that we had to leave the apartment because we have smoked. Of course we didn’t smoke, but they said with vehemence that all the room smelled like cigarettes. That morning we made coffee and it burned a little maybe that’s what they smelled! After begging not to be kicked away (we already paid all the week!!) they said ok. As we came back the evening (9:30) we found a note that said we had to pay 125 $ for the cleaning of the room or go away in that moment. We didn’t know what to do, it was obvious that they took advantage of two girls that couldn’t find another place to sleep at that time in a big foreign city, so we paid.
I’ve never be treated so bad, I don’t know if they are dishonest or just stupid but I suggest STRONGLY not to go there.

Our stay was great, the room was lovely and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a place to stay in NYC.

My husband and I went to New York for the weekend and had a lovely stay at La Sienna. We were on the 4th floor and our room was a good size with a nice window. The historic features of the home were quite charming. Original hard wood flooring, gorgeous wood moldings and entranceway, and a nice quilt on the bed. The bathrooms and kitchen were immaculate and the house was very quiet. We were out very early each morning didn't get back until late in the evening, so we slept very soundly each night. The house felt very safe and it was so peaceful that this was very easy to do. Just a block and a half away from the subway made it a great location for a weekend in Manhattan.
Really enjoyed my stay at La Sienna. It was perfect on a budget and in the hub of Harlem. Don't be put off by this as it is a rejuvenated area and not like it used to be in the 80's. We felt pretty safe walking back from the subway which is only a 5 minute walk. You also have NYPDept at the end of the road. The Subway connects you to all the main areas and was pretty convenient. Even went direct to Coney Island from 125th on the subway. I would get a 7 day subway card which costs $30. A couple of nights we hung out in Harlem and went to a few new bars and The Apollo on a Wednesday for the infamous talent night. You can do these things there if you are a bit tired from travelling into and around NYC. Also, shopping in Harlem is probably slightly cheaper than shopping in the centre. Food in NYC/Harlem is cheap and massive portions, you will never go hungry.
La Sienna is a very sweet traditional and typical brownstone house that has so much character. Our room was very clean and very spacious with high ceilings that had a TV/Cable and free wifi that was very handy. It was pretty quiet around there, i would only say that the main noise can from the other guests, but that is to be expected. I would definitely recommend this guest house to stay at to anyone.

Very small room, but very comfortable, kind service, hospitable, easy walk to to the metro. The place was so clean and quiet - I was amazed.

My second stay at La Sienna and I always recommend it to friends. Love the house, Manny, Yvette and the great location. It's easy to get down town and the walk to the Metro is short. Because it's such a small place you'll never feel like people are running in and out of the house all the time and some days i wwas the only guest. It felt like my home!

Very cozy family hotel, clean and comfortable bed, owner has great taste, I really like the way she decorate the place. Very close to the metro station. The only thing is it is in Harlem, as a female travelling alone, that wasnt my best choice, but if you are a few friends or families, this place is no doubt of the best value.
