The people at the hostel were very nice and the rooms and facilities were very clean... overall more than you could expect for the price. I readily recommend this to anyone who is looking to stay in Montréal. The atmosphere is very relaxed and since it is privately owned and run it does not at all radiate the "charme" of other, bigger hostels. If I would run a hostel, this is what I would want it to be like.

Bienvenue à l'Auberge l'Apéro, une auberge de style européen, dans la plus grande ville européenne en Amérique de Nord : Montréal. Apéro est le début d'un grand repas ou, dans ce cas - un grand séjour.
Situé au coeur du centre-ville, L'Auberge vous offre des chambres sécuritaires et confortables à seulement deux pas du cur de l'action.
Avec seulement 18 lits, nous offrons une ambiance personnalisée sur deux étages d'un ancien bâtiment en Graystone de 1880 avec tous les services que vous attendez d'une auberge, et de nombreux autres qui sauront vous plaire. Les chambres sont lumineuses avec des planchers de bois franc et des murs intérieurs de briques qui ajoutent un air d'intimité à l'Auberge. Le deuxième étage comprend la réception, le dortoir pour filles et la salle de lessive. Le troisième étage de la résidence comprend les dortoirs mixtes, la chambre commune et la cuisine.
L'une des caractéristiques de l'Auberge L'Apéro est notre belle terrasse où vous pourrez vous détendre et apprécier votre petit déjeuner continental au soleil, ou y revenir pour un apéro à la fin d'un merveilleux après-midi de visite avant de sortir souper. Nous proposons également une cuisine entièrement équipée, une salle commune, Internet gratuit et Wi-Fi, et une buanderie. Plus important encore, il n'y a pas de couvre-feu de sorte que vous serez libre d'explorer la ville et sa célèbre (et fabuleuse!) vie nocturne à votre goût.
Ce qui sépare l'Auberge L'Apéro des autres auberges est notre attention au détail. Nous vous traitons comme clients, et non pas comme des passants, et vous trouverez un service personnalisé similaire à celui d'un hôtel.
Auberge L'Apéro n'est pas seulement une auberge qui se trouve être à Montréal, L'Apéro est comme Montréal. Elle reflète la dynamique de la ville, la vie sociale et le style européen. Ne vous contentez pas de visiter la ville, faire partie de celle-ci à l'Auberge L'Apéro.

Directions
When you arrive in Montreal:
If you arrive in the city at Trudeau airport, there is a bus service to downtown. Get the schedule here (http://www.admtl.com/passager/acces_et_stationnement/_aerobus.aspx). It will drop you at the Montréal Central Bus Station located at 505 de Maisonneuve Blvd. E. From there you can take a taxi or hop in the metro (underground train), take direction Angrignon and get out at station Guy Concordia. Once out of the metro station you will be on the corner of Maisonneuve & Guy street, from there you walk east on Maisonneuve (in the direction of the Java U coffee shop) then make a right on Mackay street.
If you arrive by train at Gare Central (Central Station), walk three blocks north on Mansfield St. from the station to Saint-Catherine Street, then turn left (west) and walk eight blocks to Mackay. Turn right and we are on the right.
If you arrive by car:
From the west: The Trans Canada Highway is called the Autoroute 401 in Québec. Take the exit for Autoroute 40 Est and move immediately to the left lane. Take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. ( this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Turn right and go four blocks to Mackay. Turn left, and we are on the left.
From the south: Cross the Pont Champlain and follow the signs for Centre-ville. When you get to the end of the highway continue straight up University Street for about 10 blocks until you get to rue de Maisonneuve. Turn left and go 10 blocks to Mackay St, and turn left. We are on your left.
From the east: Take Autoroute 40 west and take the exit for Autoroute Décarie. Follow the signs for Autoroute Ville-Marie. (this seems like a lot of highways, but the trips on each are only a few kilometers. BTW a kilometer is 0.6 miles. Take the exit for Rue Guy, and go straight three blocks to rue Saint-Catherine. Montreal has an excellent public transit system that can get you anywhere in the city. The first time you go to a metro station, ask the ticket taker or our staff for the Plan de Réseau. It is the official public transit map, one of the best maps of the city, and it is free. You can download it here (http://www.stm.info/english/info/reseau2007.pdf), but it is too big to print. The Société de Transport de Montréal offers other good maps on their web site (http://www.stm.info/english/info/a-plans.htm).
The closest metro station to the Auberge is the Guy-Concordia Station (http://www.stm.info/english/metro/a-m34.htm#Quartier). The link on the station will give you the metro schedule and also the schedules of all the buses that serve the station, and the Auberge.
