Location is very good . Staff is very friendly.
Elevator capacity is far to small.

if you are just planning on spending little time in the room and more time travelling it is perfect. For women travelling alone... the surrounding area could possibly be a bit intimidating, however the service provided was perfect and adaquate

Stayed here for 3 nights and found the rooms clean and comfortable. Made the booking through Singh Guest House but we ended up staying at Germany Hostel which was still ok. Apparently almost all the budget hostels in Chungking Mansions are under one owner so the rooms "should" be the same.
Pros:
- Big plus is that Chungking mansions is very near the Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) MTR station Exit C1 so it's very easy and convenient to use the MTR system to get around Hong Kong.
- Chungking mansions is also near Victoria Harbour, Star Ferry port, Avenue of Stars, Mongkok and other places of interest in central Kowloon.
- The rooms are affordable and good if you just need a place to shower and sleep.
- The staff are friendly and helpful.Cons:
- The entrance to Chungking mansions can be quite intimidating with rows of touts loitering near the entrance and the surrounding area. My advice is to ignore them and proceed quickly through to your hostel. The interior of Chungking looks dirty and run down but it's bark is worse than it's bite with rows of money changers, convenience shops and food places inside. There is a nice Indian Pakistan restaurant hidden somewhere at the back which was a pleasant respite from the dirty surroundings outside. To get to block D turn right after the main entrance, go straight and take the second last left turning and the elevator up should be on your right. Word of caution, the 2 elevators are small (8 people only) and few for such a crowded building (16 floors at least) so you'll need to wait for a while when going up and down though you can take the stairs if you're feeling adventurous. All in all I would recommend this place to stay in Hong Kong but mentally prepare yourself beforehand.

Good location in the city, but unfortunately inside Chungking Mansion (aka hell on earth). I suppose the hostel cannot really be blamed for that as it is the cheapest hostel location in HK.
We booked a room for four, but when we got there they tried to foist a 2-bed and a single on us. After having walked through the 'mansion' mentioned above, my friends (who had never been to HK) were literally terrified of the prospect of the group being split up, so we had to share a room with two beds.
The room was clean enough... Service was slooooooow. We said (nicely) upon arrival that we were in a very big rush to check in and then get somewhere, and I have honestly never seen a human being move so slowly, even after some polite prompting. It would have been comical had we not been so stressed out.
Basically it is a fairly standard Chungking hostel (in case you have been there before). Nothing special but relatively cheap.

Location is great, in the middle of the shopping street and close to bus and metro. could be a little cleaner but for the money a good deal.

Too cramped. But location is great!
I was a little worried about chungking mansions before I stayed there because of what i paid I was expecting the worst. But on arrival The staff could not have been more helpful, The room was clean and perfect for what we needed it for, its not luxury but for the price it was fantastic value for money. There was 2 of us staying in a twin en-suite room, the bathroom was basically a wet room with the shower above the toilet, which we didn't mind because at the end of the day its still a nice hot shower.
The manager Mr Dillion went out of his way to help us as we wanted to go to Beijing for a couple of days we needed visas which he sorted but we decided to do them independently as it was cheaper. He done all the research about train times and types of seat for us, and also let us keep our bags at the hotel for the 4 days for free. I actually booked the same room again for 3 nights when we got back. The location of chungking mansions is at the bottom of Nathan Road and about 5 minutes walk away from the star ferry and a metro station, Perfect for a day of exploring. Outside our room was a kettle, microwave and cups for making tea or coffee and a computer which you can log onto for free to check emails, if your wanting to use it for a while then you have to pay. I had my own laptop so I could get the wi-fi in my room and log on when ever i wanted for how ever long. There was also a fridge in our room which had complementary water in it
Our flight for going home was at midnight and because we had to check out early they allowed us to keep our bags there until we picked them up so we didn't have the added stress of pulling them around everywhere with us. On the whole the staff were friendly and extremely helpful and made our stay in Hong Kong pleasant and stress free. Thank you!
The rooms are very new and clean, though very small of course. Free wifi internet, drinking water, coffee and tea, and in-room refrigerators are all huge pluses. The building itself is grimy and rundown, full of all sort of seedy characters, but not at all unsafe. Just politely decline all the offers for drugs and fake watches and you will be fine.
One thing I would warn you about is that this property appears to habitually overbook. For my first night I was put in a room with another hostel, which was strictly okay but not nearly at the quality of the room I had originally booked. When I complained about this the staff readily gave me a significant discount for that night, but it was still a hassle. So be forewarned, especially during busy times. You should probably call ahead and ensure you have a room.
Considering the location and price, I think this place is fantastic value for money. Most of the bad reviews I have seen for this place seem to come from people who were expecting to get hotel quality at less than half the price of a hotel. It doesn't work that way. If you have realistic expectations about what a guest house can offer you will likely be very pleased with this place.
Also note that even if you book online with credit card, this place only accepts cash payment - USD or HKD.
Added bonus - building has great Indian food at reasonable prices.
my partner and i stayed for 4 days during early march, 2010. the place is small , but hey what do you expect in such a cheap place?
though small, the place is clean and well kept. what makes this inn a good place to stay is its staff. all of them are just ready to help and accommodate requests. you can leave your stuff and feel safe about it. and all local calls are free. wifi connection is great, too.
the lowest part is that the minute you leave the inn, you'd face a lot of nationalities, some nasty, some nice.
over all, our stay was great, if you are on a budget and just wish for a place to rest after a good day's travel, then this guest house is just right for you!!!
Singh Guest House is great!
