Abbeywood is a former monastery, still retaining many of its original features such as stained glass windows, polished wood floors and high ceilings. Its situation, set in off the road in its own grounds makes it hard to believe it is so close to the centre of town. All the rooms have large picture windows with views over Croagh Patrick and the surrounding town. Having only recently opened its doors after renovations, the rooms are freshly painted, the beds are new, complete with certified orthopaedic mattresses and a brand new shower system has been installed. Also, all groups of 8 or more people are required to pay a damage deposit of €20 per person on arrival, to be refunded on departure presuming there has been no damage caused to the rooms or complaints about noise from other guests.
