My girlfriend and I stayed here on the nights of 1 and 2 July 2011. We was given a room on the third floor. I should have packed crampons and an ice axe: the stairs are *steep* and won't suffer fools gladly, nor anyone who has heart problems. You really do have to take care with them, as they are narrow, twisty, and very steep (I mentioned steep before but it really does need reiterating.)

The hotel is decorated under the theme of 'music' and it shows. Our room had a lighting rig for the over-bed lights, the main light in the bedroom was a snare drum and all the cabinets and so on were seemingly constructed from gig transport boxes. The bar room (drinks are available 24h a day) has a piano and guitars and whatnot, and more lights made from drums over the bar itself.

The room was clean, towels and sheets were un-marked and were changed after one day. No complaints there. Staff were incredibly friendly and keen to help. They also we able to answer every question we asked them.

The only down side was that there were some very loud guests a couple of rooms down, and once we woke to them some time around 5am, we couldn't get back to sleep. My girlfriend navigated the mountainous stairs to speak to a member of staff and 5 minutes later we had peace. The following night we didn't take any chances and bought some ear plugs - conveniently available from the reception area!

Another niggle - the information we received said that you get the 370 bus from the airport to get to Leidseplein. This is now incorrect - it's the 197 bus. Who knows how long we would have been stuck trying to work things out at the bus area if some kind soul hadn't heard our conversation and helped out.

Would definitely stay there again. I wouldn't call it cheap though - about 300 euros for a double en-suite room for 2 nights. You can get cheaper, but I don't know if it'll be as nice.

Stayed here for 3 nights. Really enjoyed the stay. Hotel is literally 2 minute walk from the Leidesplein so it's in a good location. We walked to Anne Franks house and Dam square and it took about 15-20 mins but there are plenty of tram stops at the Leidesplein. Reception are really friendly and helpful if you need any info about the city. Rooms are quite small but very well equipped (dressing table and stool, ipod dock, flatscreen tv) and you get a free safety deposit box in the room. Music theme of the hotel is cool. The only bad thing was that the toilet and drains were a bit smelly, but we just kept the bathroom door closed and you couldn't smell it. Hotel was very clean and bar prices reasonable. Also, there is no lift in the hotel so if you struggle to walk up stairs then request a lower room floor when booking. Overall, great stay!

The rooms are quite small, but very charming with a cool music theme to the whole hotel (more of a hostel really, but still). The breakfast buffee for €6.50 was very good value!!

I stayed at backstage for 1 night. it was pretty over priced only because I stayed in double room & had to pay for the other bed just to have the room to myself. The location is excellent very close to bars, restaurants & museums. They staff was very helpful & friendly.
