In 1929, O.C. Thorarensen built the house that now stands tall in Hafnarstraeti 104, as a premises for his pharmacy. The upper floors have served many purposes over the years, for example as an infant clinic, municipal social offices etc. However it was in 1999 that the Guesthouse Akureyri took over the upper floors, and established there a family-friendly guesthouse. Since then, two more buildings in close proximity have been added.It's ideal location in the town's centre, has made it one of the most popular guesthouse in Akureyri.
