Skippen Easy to find but a bit of a haul from the railway station with heavy bags. However the location makes it worth it and a taxi probably isn't too much. Shared facilities are great with a few extras available that make the stay more enjoyable. Cold drinks available in the fridge, your own storage box in the fridge as well. A microwave to heat food purchased from local delis - all much appreciated. As usual, breakfast in Italy is not usually going to see you through the day so buy some extra fruit etc. Staff are excellent, can communicate in english and are most helpful. Location is a real winner, right in the middle of the walled area of Lucca.

thudhk We loved our 10 days at the Hotel Stella which we used as a base to travel to Florence, San Gimignano, Peruguia and Siena. The open and airy room was a great size; the large bed was fantastically comfortable; the fridge in the room was handy; the bathroom was huge with great water pressure and oodles of hot water; it was spotlessly clean and we enjoyed the clean towels every other day. However, the down side (which is why it only got a 4 star rating from us)was that it was not insulated for noise and EVERY sound in the building was heard, which was very annoying, despite their spiel stating their location was in a quiet side street. The guest's kitchen had an extremely slow electric element and the pots provided for cooking were far too large to ever cook anything in for just the two of us, which meant we did not have the financial benefits we had envisaged of being able to eat 'in' as much as we would have liked. However, the owner did indicate this situation would be remedied after we mentioned our concerns, so hopefully this will not be a problem in the future. The free wifi was somewhat hit and miss initially, but it was still nice to have, even if we had to log in most times we opened our ipad! Having said all that, we would thoroughly recommend anyone to use the Hotel Stella because of it's close proximity to the Lucca gates and the very yummy pattisserie next door; the cleanliness; the price; the comfort and the charming staff. Linda was great at sorting out any queries we had with her flawless English. Thank you all for a lovely stay and we hope one day to return.
