drj2221 Really nice owner. Very helpful even though she speaks no Engilsh. Large room. Walls are paper thin for noise. You wont sleep late. The map and description to her place is is very confusing because of one way streets and the names of the streets change in the middel of the same street. It would be much better if she printed a better and more accurate street map (with arrows of one way streets) to get to her B&B once your inside the town walls. It took us an hour to find her place because we didnt have a GPS. I have been to Lucca twice now and the best advice I can give anyone is to go in May before the summer rush is on and the crowds swell. On a warm sunny, spring day we climbed to the top of the tallest clock tower to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding Tuscany hillsides, red terracotta roofs and the layout of the walled town far below us. We packed a bottel of wine, some cheese , bread, fresh prochuto ham, and cookies in my backpack for a great lunch, wonderful sun and a cooling breeze with only one other tourist to partake of the view. Wow what a memory...... DR. J (World Adventurest)

globetr2 Very clean. Friendly, helpful management and central position. Good, varied and plentiful continental breakfast. Thoroughly recommend. Would be helpful to produce a map showing relationship to nearest car park, which is only five minutes walk if you know where.

thudhk We loved our 10 days at the Hotel Stella which we used as a base to travel to Florence, San Gimignano, Peruguia and Siena. The open and airy room was a great size; the large bed was fantastically comfortable; the fridge in the room was handy; the bathroom was huge with great water pressure and oodles of hot water; it was spotlessly clean and we enjoyed the clean towels every other day. However, the down side (which is why it only got a 4 star rating from us)was that it was not insulated for noise and EVERY sound in the building was heard, which was very annoying, despite their spiel stating their location was in a quiet side street. The guest's kitchen had an extremely slow electric element and the pots provided for cooking were far too large to ever cook anything in for just the two of us, which meant we did not have the financial benefits we had envisaged of being able to eat 'in' as much as we would have liked. However, the owner did indicate this situation would be remedied after we mentioned our concerns, so hopefully this will not be a problem in the future. The free wifi was somewhat hit and miss initially, but it was still nice to have, even if we had to log in most times we opened our ipad! Having said all that, we would thoroughly recommend anyone to use the Hotel Stella because of it's close proximity to the Lucca gates and the very yummy pattisserie next door; the cleanliness; the price; the comfort and the charming staff. Linda was great at sorting out any queries we had with her flawless English. Thank you all for a lovely stay and we hope one day to return.

Skippen Easy to find but a bit of a haul from the railway station with heavy bags. However the location makes it worth it and a taxi probably isn't too much. Shared facilities are great with a few extras available that make the stay more enjoyable. Cold drinks available in the fridge, your own storage box in the fridge as well. A microwave to heat food purchased from local delis - all much appreciated. As usual, breakfast in Italy is not usually going to see you through the day so buy some extra fruit etc. Staff are excellent, can communicate in english and are most helpful. Location is a real winner, right in the middle of the walled area of Lucca.

joan.tunbridge The accommodation is best reached via Port Elisa or using the pathway that runs atop the city walls. I didn't realise this so had quite a long walk through the old city to reach Primavera. Once there i was pleased to find a spacious room and very comfy double bed, a kitchen & garden to use anytime and a decent bathroom - with hot water. Very clean, quiet and no interference from anybody. Even the neighbour whose bell i pressed accidentally was very friendly. The breakfast is really basic but good strong coffee works for me so not an issue. I bought a yoghurt and some fruit which I kept in the fridge. Of course anybody expecting a real breakfast included in the price will be disappointed. I'd stay here again.
