If you are looking to go to more than one ski resort during your stay in Hakuba, you will be glad you chose Mt Hakuba Backpackers. From our hostel there are free shuttle buses to and from all of the 10 ski areas in the Hakuba area.

Mt Hakuba Backpackers Hostel is the newest and best located hostel in Hakuba. From our hostel there are free shuttle buses to and from all the major Hakuba ski areas . We are a one minute walk from the closest convenience store, a couple of minutes walk from numerous bars and restaurants, 5 minutes walk will find you at the closest onsen (hot spring) and 10 minutes to an international ATM.

Each ski resort has a shuttle bus leaving approximately every hour in the morning and coming back every hour in the afternoon.The shuttle buses operate between the 20th Dec and 31 March. Prior to that and during April and early May, the hostel itself will do a shuttle bus to one ski resort, rotating daily.

Mt Hakuba Backpackers is fully equipped with an inhouse bar (separated from the sleeping areas),restaurant,guest laundry,guest kitchen, and an internet cafe (with free wireless). The bar has cozy sofas, a free billiard table and 2 daily happy hours. You can buy cheap but filling meals at the bar (it is only open during the ski season).

We are open every day of the year, and we encourage people to come during the non-winter months to check out the wild beauty of Hakuba. There are many hiking and mountain bike trails to explore and we can recommend you some nice ones. We also rent mountain bikes. Free pick up is available from Hakuba station or Happo Bus terminal between May 6th and October 31st during hostel reception hours (8-11am and 4-8 pm)-please call on arrival.

You can pay with cash or credit card but please note that payment by credit card will incur a 4% surcharge (what our bank charges us) so if you wish to avoid this please pay cash.

We have 10 rooms accommodating 40 people in total. Linen is included free of charge and towels are available at a small cost.

Between December and March if you are arriving between 4pm and 10.30 pm you can catch the Genki Go shuttle bus from the station for 200 yen (see the map page on our website for details). If you are arriving earlier than this you might wish to get a taxi from the train station and it will cost about 1000 yen. Another option is to get a free shuttle bus to one of the ski areas directly from the station (see our website for timetables), board/ski for a few hours then catch another free shuttle bus to our hostel from the ski area when you are done. You may also wish to go directly from the ski areas to Hakuba Station on the day you leave using the shuttle buses.

We provide a 24 hour check-in service but you need to let us know in advance if you are going to arrive outside of reception hours so we can organize your key. Our reception is open from 8 am till 11am, and between 4:00 pm and 8 pm
