Stayed in Hotel Veneto for 3 nights from 9/4/09 to 11/4/09. We reserved a room with 4 beds and a private ensuite.
We'll start with the most positive thing about this hotel. We liked the location. It's very central and it's about 10min on foot from the main train station of Florence.
It's also one of the cheapest hotels you can find in Florence. That said, cheap doesn't always mean good. This is especially true for hotel Veneto.

It's also one of the cheapest hotels you can find in Florence. That said, cheap doesn't always mean good. This is especially true for hotel Veneto. We made a mistake by not first reading the reviews from the previous guests of the hotel. Yes, we admit were were a bit of a cheapskate. We fell for the too-good-to-be-true rate offered by the hotel. We do hope you won't make the same mistake. We're 4 young men in our 20s who enjoy traveling. We certainly didn't expect a five star (or 2 star for that matter) facilities from the price we paid.
We stayed in room 101 on the ground floor of the hotel. There were one double bed and two single beds in the room. All the beds were worn out, with cheap flimsy mattresses. The room was a bit small for 4 persons and it was damp and cold. Our towels remained wet for the whole duration of our stay in that room. We were also lucky we brought our own towels because towels were not provided on our first night there. We requested for towels from Magdalena (not sure if she was the infamous woman many people mentioned about here). She promised to give us the towels but never did. We waited and waited and finally had to ask a different employee for the towels.
There was an air conditioner and a heater in the room but they didn't work. We asked for extra blankets on our second night because our room could get very cold at night and again, Magdalena failed to keep her promise. She promised to bring us extra blankets and then we never heard from her again. We had to ask a different employee for the blankets and he could only find one thin blanket and of questionable cleanliness from their sotrage room. We spent the remaining nights sleeping in our sweaters and jackets.
The thing which we were most dissatisfied with about this hotel is it's service. We can forgive the hotel for the lack of decent blankets, the flimsy pillows, the worn out mattresses, the lack of heating in our room, or even the awful bathroom which we had to turn the water on for about 8min or so before we had hot water. But what we can't fogive the hotel for is the bad services and their lack of professionalism. Magdalena never showed up with our blankets and towels although she had promised that she would bring them to us. Worse still, she just disappeared and left us waiting for the items.
We were also locked out of the hotel one night when we came back around 1AM. There was no one at the front desk, the front door was locked, the hotel was completely dark inside and there was no bell or buzzer outside. We had to bang on the glass doors and called the reception desk from our mobile to get someone to open the door for us. When we checked out, the employee on duty that morning couldn't figure out how to work the credit card machine and resulted in a few errors in the transaction. As of today, we received 5 smses from our bank saying that the hotel made 5 transactions on our credit card and 2 were cancellations of previous transactions. Now, we are waiting with bated breath for the final credit card statement from our bank to find out if the transaction was done correctly i.e no duplicate charges.
There you go. Hope this information helps you in deciding your future accommodation in Florence. There's definitely a moral to this story and we'll let you figure that one out.
