Cheap Accommodation in Kuala Lumpur

Budget Accommodation Asia Malaysia Kuala Lumpur

The capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, is a sprawling metropolis with a busy central area that spreads out into commercial and residential zones.

Tourists will find most of this modern city's attractions, such as the Petronas Towers or China Town in the central areas which are all linked via modern rail systems. These central areas can be broken up into different accommodation areas with several offering great budget options. Take advantage of the rail system (LRT & Mono Rail) over infrequent buses or the crooked taxi ranks for a more relaxed way to get around Kuala Lumpur.

Planning ahead when staying in Kuala Lumpur, including choosing where you stay, can make your trip here much more enjoyable.

Golden Triangle

Known for its exclusive shopping areas, business zones and the city highlight that are the impressive Petronas towers the Golden Triangle is the elite district of Kuala Lumpur. With fabulous 5-star hotels taking up permanent residence nearby it's surprising to see that there are also quite a few cheap accommodation offerings. Budget conscious travellers looking to shop in Bukit Bintang will only be a single monorail ride away. While a single Light Rail Transit (LRT) stop could deliver you directly under the giant silver Petronas towers that light up the skyline at night. A visit that's well worth it for that all important iconic photo of the city plus some mall shopping at Suria KLCC inside.

Little India (Tuanku Abdul Rahman)

This is the older more traditional shopping area of Kuala Lumpur with plenty to see and do for the traveller. Masjid Jamek is a beautiful building that can be visited by all wearing suitable attire (long sleeves and long trousers for all). Across the road is Chow Kit market which is filled with great food stands and everyday market stalls. During Ramadan evenings the streets here are positively brimming with fantastic hawker stalls with included seating thus making it a great night out for all.

Central / China Town

Often known as the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the central area is also where you fill find the majority of budget accommodation. With a vast area comprising of what is now known as Chinatown there's an incredible amount of activity and things to do here. Everyday the street market in Jalan Petaling is filled with souvenir and food stalls. Go early to avoid the crowds and eat away from the street to avoid high tourist prices. Visit the colourful Sri Mahamariamman Temple or shop again for more tourist souvenirs at the Central Market. All of which is very close to both KL Sentral Railway Station and the main bus station linking you to the rest of Malaysia.
