nigelpeaco Scott the owner is great and more than helpful. When you arrive at the airport, call the free 0800 number and he will pick you up within 15 minutes. Clean rooms with beds made up. An ideal spot for that overnight close to Auckland airport.
Nik. The first time in New Zealand, first time in Auckland, first time at Bamber House - you will never find a better start! Enough space and friendly people around there. Time to relax! Enjoy!!!
henryjohnm The kitchen was quite clean with ample room for food storage. The bunk beds were not so good since they rock easily; especially if you have a person who kicks in their sleep beneath you! The washing machine only used cold water?! A little inconvenient if you do not buy cold water washing powder. The Italians were not happy! and neither was I for that matter. Also, there is a little problem with seating in the TV room since I had to stand on occasion and lean against the sofa. This hostel is ok for a few days whilst you get something better fixed. All in all, it's a non-returner.

jess1990 Had an awesome time, right in the middle of the city. It is close to everything and it has lots of different activities you can do while you're staying there as well as being affordable. I definitely recommend frienz backpackers.
Sander A flagship YHA, with top-notch facilities (especially noteworthy: the awesome industrial strength kitchen). Lacks some atmosphere, though definitely not because of lack of trying by the people at reception. Very useful travel desk, and generally a great place to stay. (Although I last stayed here in Feb 2005, I visited it again to use their travel desk in Jun 2008, and it seemed otherwise to be still as good.)
