ciahcra Clean room and common area. Kitchen was well equipped. Bathroom were clean. Flexibility to arrive after hour is an added advantage!
coodabean This is a great fun place to stay.20 minutes easy walk to Christchuch or 5 minutes on a bus. The staff are real helpful and the "Jailhouse" is a very quirky place to stay.
hughchina Dorset House is on the highest level of backpacker accommodation and is only let down by a distant and minimally available approach to service. The desk closes at 6.00 pm and no-one is available even by telephone from then until the next day. What happens in some domestic emergency? This is not a good policy from a safety point of view. The building's quality and history attracts older tourists who, like myself, are liable to health problems so this ought to be revised.

pjhannam A great Hostel, Alan & Keiko are very helpfull and friendly hosts. Clean, quiet and relaxing with a lovely garden for chilling out in. Thanks for everything.
zeccav Too far from City centre and the botanical gardens for my enjoyment. Clean enough and lots of space in the kitchen fridges. I liked the idea of lockers in the kitchen to keep food safe. Be warned they close reception at 7pm , not 8pm as they write on the travellerspoint site.
Sander Great location right next to the Botanic Gardens, and overall a decent - if looking a bit ramshackle - YHA hostel. Seems to be popular with people staying a long time in Christchurch - at least, that was the feeling I got from the vibe there. Service at reception was downright lousy both times I stayed here (a week apart, with different people at reception). That doesn't matter much to me, as I know the ropes - but I can imagine someone who's not used to YHA hostels not wanting to stay here because of that. There's free overnight parking right next door (free between 17:00 and 09:00 (except on Friday nights, when it isn't free until later at night); metered 2-hour max parking from 09:00 to 17:00). Very useful if you have a rental car to drop off the next morning before flying out.
