reo.rapana Very helpful, friendly owner, suggested good places to eat and the best beach for swimming. Very nice comfy clean room. Lovely crisp sheets and decent pillows! Location was really handy to the main strip, tho I think I may be getting too old for staying on a street with four backpackers and 3-4 bars- It's pretty lively there, even mid-week! There are signs letting people know the hostel is noise-free after 10.30, which was pretty much stuck to. Can't fault the place, and would stay there again- maybe for New Years!
Sander Compared to the usual type of high quality YHA hostel, this one was pretty dismal. I didn't know it at the time, as this happened to be the first YHA I ever stayed at, but the dorm rooms were very cramped (with the "ensuite" designation a joke; an absolutely tiny bathroom with barely room to turn around, shared between ten people), and the kitchen was just dirty (I remember the plastic table cloth being extremely sticky and icky). -- However: Note that my stay was nearly five years ago now, so this place might've cleaned up a lot since then.

bagabaga77 BEST SHOWER IN NEW ZEALAND! My friend and I enjoyed our stay here; we were made to feel welcome and the owner and his reception lady are both fun to talk to. There are many young people here so we oldies stood out a bit but everyone was friendly.
