The house provides private rooms with shared bathroom (one bathroom every two rooms.
Two of the rooms have a roof terrace to relax and chill out watching the sunset.
Guanajuato is a city of incredible charm, as is almost immediately obvious on entering it by way of its subterranean main street. The street follows the original course of the Guanajuato River, running beneath the city for almost 3 kilometers.
To navigate the city, you have to go on foot. It is criss-crossed by hundreds of callejones (alleyways), the most famous of which is, undoubtedly, Callej�n del Beso (Alley of the Kiss). The local romantic legend has it that this callej�n is so narrow that lovers, each standing on a balcony on either side of the alley, can reach across the alley and exchange a kiss! The alleyway is also part of the route of the popular traditional callejoneadas of Guanajuato - when student choral groups stroll the alleyways of Guanajuato at night, strumming their guitars and serenading the local populace.

What a wonderful place to El Hogar de Carmelita is! Carmen, who runs this hostel, does an incredible job making it feel like you are a welcome guest in her home. My friends and I stayed here for three nights, and beyond the fact that the place is lovely, clean, affordable, and in a great location just close enough to Guanajuato's city center, getting to know Carmen and spend time chatting with her each morning made our time there a memorable treat. I highly recommend El Hogar de Carmelita!

We (myself and four others) stayed for three nights: my first time in Mexico (let alone Guanajuato). Wonderful place run by the wonderful Carmen. She cooked us delicious food, made us feel at home, and was a wonderful presence in the hostel. My birthday was almost the same day as hers so she invited all of us to her father's house for her birthday party where we ate, drank, and sang. It was a spectacular way to spend my birthday. The rooms were nice, clean, well-kept, and comfortable. Hot showers if needed. Several rooms had spectacular balconies. The location is great: just a beautiful 10 minute-ish walk to downtown. It was easy to climb the Bufa from her place, because it gives you a (relatively) close starting point. Highly recommended!
One quick thing: I think the phone number on the website might be out-of-date, but Carmen responds quickly to emails.
