Riad Medina Azahara is a nice and relaxing Hostel Riad placed in the medina of Marrakech a few minutes walking only from the main square Jemaa el Fnaa and the souks (markets).
The Riad is composed of 5 double-triple-quadruple rooms (Bouchra, Zara, Ghadia, Fatima and Amal) each one equipped of an en-suite bathroom, (PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ROOMS WITH A/C ) a central Patio decorated with Moorish furniture and a plunge pool in the center, a nice living room and an open air living room corner cool in summer time and very cosy during winter season as well as 2 dorms (10 beds and 6 beds dorms) composed of single beds with 2 common showers and 2 restrooms. There is also a Hammam and a massage area as well as a very nice terrace well equipped for sunbathing.

•Breakfast includes: bread, moroccan crepes, jam, butter, cheese and mint tea.
•Coffee, yoghurt, omlette etc are extra, please let us know if you would like any extras.

Towels:
•Private rooms: towels are available and we ask for a 50dh deposit per towel.
•Dorms: towels cost 15dhs per towel per day.
•We ask that you are careful if you have henna paintings or similar as the henna can damage the towels and we cannot refund deposits for damaged towels.

We require payment of the outstanding balance in cash on arrival. The rate we apply for payment in local currency is as follow:
1 euro = 12 dhs
1 USD = 9 dhs
1 GBP = 14 dhs
Changes and Cancellations made on arrival will be charged for the full amount as stated on your booking.

2 days/1 night Tour to Zagora 650dhs per person
•Includes: return transport, 1 night accommodation in a berber tent in the desert, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, camel ride to the berber tent and return camel ride the next morning after breakfast to the minibus.
3 days/2nights Tour to Merzouga950dhs per person
•Includes: return transport, 2 nights accommodation with 1 night in a hotel at the Dades Gorge and 1 night in a berber tent in the desert, 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, camel ride to the berber tent and return camel ride the next morning after breakfast to the minibus.

Whereas we were very happy with the location of the Riad and the overall feel of the place we did feel that they charged too much for what was offered. I was completely willing to accept that it is an old building but perhaps they could make up for the lack of water pressure, inconsistency of hot water with a better breakfast (tea, bread, butter & jam, 1 cheese triangle)
I have put the cleanliness at 1 because of the occasional puddles of dog pee and poo on the terraces. (there are two pet dogs in the riad)
Having said that, ample, clean bedding was provided and the girl who served us breakfast was very nice.

It is hard to find the hostel but it is situated 5 minutes from the main square. Staff is nice, place is quiet and peaceful (which is a very great advantage in Marrakesh) They have access to the Internet. Overall, highly recommend.

Arriving much later then mentioned in this Medina Riad ( morrocco trains...), we were expected and our room was available.
Close to the main square to visit the Medina.
Breakfast service was very slow but tasted verry good.

The place it's nice but if you want a quiet place don't go there. My group and me wanted to got up early in the morning to visit different places and go for excursions but people in the riad wanted to stay in the terrace talking and listening music until late at night and it was imposible to sleep.

We have rented a room at Riad Medina Azahara for 3 days and altough the place is very nice and clean, we have many problems with the illumination of the room since we arrived...and the responsable of the Riad, Elisa, don't care about us... we lived in the darkness for 3 days and only the last night she give us two candles!! However the service by the marrokian guys was perfect and they were allways very gentle.
We had no idea what to expect when we booked a "cheap 'n cheerful" room for our first adventure to Marrakech. Riad Medina Azahara (we stayed at No. 22) turned out to be an oasis of Moroccan hospitality and charm in the centre of the old city. Only moments on foot from the souks and the famous square but the narrow streets and high walls ensured it was blissfully peaceful within. The manager was helpful and cheerful and managed to procure a birthday bottle of wine for us, despite it being Ramadam. Our room was basic but comfortable with plenty of highly decorated cupboard space, a comfortable bed and colourful paintings on the walls. The en suite bathroom smelled damp but hot water was plentiful and the room was so exotically tiled and accoutred (turning on the tap to clean our teeth water cascaded from a spout in a cherub's mouth down into a copper basin!) that this minor point was more than forgiven. The public areas were also basic but clean, comfortable and all painted in the ubiquitous Marrakchi pink. We chose to eat breakfast each morning in a different nook or cranny of the central courtyard and spent the last minutes before bed on the roof terrace basking in the warm African night. If you're looking for modern hotel-like accommodation, facilities and service then this basic riad will not meet your requirements. But if you want to be right in the centre of the old city with charm, welcome and a clean, quiet place to lay your head after a hectic day then this is the perfect place to be.
