This place was the best ever. Metin was the manager and could not have been more helpful! He greeted us with tea and an hours walk around the area to orient us. When his place accidentally filled up he made plans to put us up in the hostel next door. He made sure any cab ride or shuttle was fairly priced and prearranged. He helped us unfailingly with directions to the ferry, our mini itineraries for side trips....He seems to never sleep and is very sincere.

New Backpackers is ideally located in the old city of Istanbul, Sultanahmet and just a 2 minute walk to all the main tourist sites, such as Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, the Underground Cistern and the Grand Bazaar. It is the perfect base for your visit to Istanbul.

Backpackers cafe/hostel has been an Istanbul favourite for 10 years. 2004 saw the entire building completely renovated under German/Turkish management, and it is now a hostel/guesthouse, cafe and bar all in one - and even boasts some of the cleanest toilets in Turkey!

All rooms air-conditioned with private en-suites.

He helped us unfailingly with directions to the ferry, our mini itineraries for side trips....He seems to never sleep and is very sincere.
The place itself has the BEST and cosiest atmosphere of any hostel we have visited and the location is less than two blocks walk from the main sites. The block it is on is so pleasent that having a drink, meeting cool people happens right there and there is no need to tackle Istanbul for a cosmopolitan/possibly risky night out. The views from the terrace are divine!
