We offer discounted swamp , city, cemetery and plantation tours. We are also on the Endymion parade route which is the BIGGEST and BEST parade at Mardi Gras.
INDIA HOUSE HOSTEL has been the place to stay for backpackers in New Orleans for over 18 years, and still is.
We have a STAGE where we have BAND nights, open mike nights and MOVIES on the BIG SCREEN. We also have SWIMMING POOL PARTIES, crawfish boils, cookouts and bbq's.

We provide dorms (mixed and single sex) and private rooms, AND NOW OUR NEW PRIVATE ROOMS WITH EN SUITE BATH for up to 4 people. All en suite rooms are set up for double (1 double bed) as well as twin (separate beds) occupancy !
ALSO spacious comfortable common rooms with relaxing sofas and flat screen t.v with DVD's and games, and a fully equipped kitchen with a HUGE courtyard, BBQ area and SWIMMING POOL, provide a great place to chill in N'awlins before heading out for a FUN night. The atmosphere is second to none.
The hostel is Internationally owned and European managed with a casual atmosphere and located at the corner of 3200 Canal St. and South Lopez St., in the Mid-City area of New Orleans.
India House has NO curfew or lock-out period. Kitchen, common rooms and all facilities are available 24hrs a day. In addition we are walking distance to local pubs, restaurants, supermarkets and all amenities a traveler would need. Or just enjoy a relaxing time in our rear courtyard sipping a cold beer with fellow travelers from around the globe. INDIA HOUSE HOSTEL is the perfect hostel for individuals or groups to meet like minded people.

India House is very conveniently located, allowing you to get in and out of the downtown area at any time of the day, as it is located on Canal Street, which has a regular streetcar service. And the staff are very friendly and the atmosphere quite congenial. But it leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to the provision of basic facilities and getting a good nights sleep. The male dorm I slept in had no windows or natural sources of ventilation, and the mattresses on the bed bunks are well past their used-by date (nor did this reality tally with the misleading pictures on the hostel's website). People were coming in and out at all hours of the night, making it very difficult to get a good nights sleep. However, to a certain extent this is to be expected, as India House likes to bill itself as a grungy hostel that appeals to the more party going type, and which is reflected in its 24 hour reception service. Thus like all hostels, it has its pros and cons, but at least there were no bed bugs!

The Hostel was friendly, a lot of fun and we'll definitely be revisiting next time we're in New Orleans.
This boho joint catered for cool travellers and offered so much: ensuite rooms, fresh-cooked breakfasts, a swimming pool, a stage for performers and a really friendly atmosphere - all for a very reasonable tariff.
Owner Kenny was a jovial host, hanging out with the guests and making great conversation. There was easily-available and up-to-date information on everything from food to local gigs.
Wifi throughout the hostel made communications easy, plus if you don't have your own computer/smartphone, you can use the hostel's desktop computer for a good hourly rate.
24-hour check-in means arriving is easy and worry-free.
The hostel is very close to a tram route taking you straight to the heart of New Orleans for $1.25 - real handy.
I'd definitely recommend this delightful place to the cool, New Orleans visitor who wants to stay in a spot that's memorable, fun and atmospheric.
