Auberge Maeva offers travellers on a budget a warm and convivial home away from home in a genuinely hospitable home-like atmosphere. Auberge Maeva is close to all amenities such as laundromats, stores, boutiques, bars and restaurants, as well as beautiful Montreal parks including Parc Mont-Royal and Parc Lafontaine. You will have a pleasant stay at very affordable prices while discovering Montréal and its surroundings.
Open throughout the year, Auberge Maeva offers 50 places in a home-like and family friendly atmosphere. Children are most welcome. You will be welcomed and assisted by a dynamic team.
There is no curfew but check-in must be completed before 11pm.
The spacious and clean dormitories can accomodate from 4 to 10 people each. There is a daily household cleaning service. Visitors also have access to and use of a spacious kitchen. The price for the night, $25 CDN as of May 1st 2009, includes tea and coffee and continental breakfast. Prices are subject to change without notice.
Founded in 2001 by Roberto and Karine Chin Foo, of Tahitian origin, Auberge Maeva is a private and independent youth hostel.

This was my first stay in a hostel, so I don't know how well this will fit with how veteran hostellers would approach the maeva.
The house was quite clean and pleasant. The manager was friendly and so were the other guests (they gave us directions to the bank with a smile even though we didn't speak a lick of french!). There is writing on the walls from guests of years past that makes one think it is a place well-loved.
The only problem we had was that our roommates pounded on the door at 4 in the morning because they forgot their key. And though they were rather loud at first they quieted down quickly.
Free breakfast was a great perk. It was a sparse offering of bread, jam, and coffee, but was far better than finding a restaurant and gave the guests a chance to shoot the breeze.
The bunks were pretty flimsy, but I wasn't expecting much. It was definitely worth saving the $50 bucks we would have spent on a hotel.
