It is cheap, considering that all other places are more expensive, BUT it is smelly, a little bit dirty and deteriorated. The place is about 30min from Downtown. San Francisco, except for downtown and a few nice places is a dangerous place, and El Capitan is in the dangerous part of the city. They can not keep your luggage after you check out, which can be a great incovenience. Overall, I do not reccommend El Capitan mostly because of the location.

Ok for price but not the cleanest but not to bad, staff not over helpful but just do what they have to bathrooms need a lot of work as old and not very clean, about 25 minutes from fisherman's wharf, cheap Mexican restaurant close and also plenty of bars and clubs. If I go back to SF I would probably stay there again as for price was cheap ideal for travelers with low budget.

It's the lousiest place I have stayed in SF...

In second day, I changed my hotel selection immediately to HI....

The tour desk person is rude, and the place is smelly also..

At first glance the place is rather run-down, old and slightly smelly. But in fact the rooms were nice, the shared toilets was all good and the people working there was friendly and helpful.
All in all a nice place to stay in San Fran, when travelling on a low budget.
