It is a pleasure to welcome you to SHIMIZUYA RYOKAN.Our ryokanhas over a 160 years of history.
We are located in the center of town , just a few minutes walk from the Zenkoji temple(the main sttraction in town),and a 20 minutes walk from the JR Nagano station.
From Nagano station,you can take a taxi(5minutes),or abus for 100 yen a person.
We have single rooms ,souble rooms,and rooms for 3 and 4 persons too.
Regardless of the type of room you are staying, the price in always the same per person.Not per room.

We stayed only one night among three persons for a certain purpose in Nagano City.
We don't have enough experience at it but we can say that this ryokan is one of the most welcoming foreigners, even comparing with other mordanzed hotels which we visited.

A very friendly, welcoming place to rest our heads after a late night Shinkansen ride across from Tokyo. A crisp clean bed and robes awaited us after a long, hot soak in the bathhouse - what more could you want? We breakfasted up the road just outside the Zenkoji Temple.
Having the name and address printed out in Japanese characters was a great help to the taxi driver - it was about 1000 yen from Nagano Station. I'd definitely recommend Shimizuya if you need a place to stay in Nagano City and want some Japanese style accomodation.

Beautiful ryokan with the most lovely owners. One of the best we have experienced in our 2 week trip. Our room was fantastic (very clean, spacious, good tatami), service was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay. Did not put a 5 star rating on 'overall', because it is a shame no breakfast is served. However, there are many very good restaurants within seconds and minutes from the ryokan, so no need to go hungry at all!

Perfectly positioned between the exciting town of Nagano and the awesome temple of Zenkoji, this was our favourite ryokan during our 3 week stay in Japan. The delightful couple who run it were welcoming and helpful and we enjoyed the best, tastiest Japanese breakfasts while we were here. A very interesting building with stairways and passages to explore, a clean spacious room with the fresh smell of tatami mats, relaxing bath and facilities to do laundry. I travelled with my husband and teenage daughter but I would recommend Shimizuya to any traveller of any age.

Fantastic! atmosphere, kind service, wonderful and delicious food and beautiful surroundings cannot be beaten. For a true Japanese experience.

This Ryokan which is owned by an elder Japanese couple is lovely and quaint with many up, downs and nooks and crannies. As soon as we arrived we were taken to our room and treated to Japanese tea. The room was spacious and very clean. Although there are common facilities you do have a washbasin in the balcony section separated from the sleeping area.
The location is excellent, with a bus stop right outside and many food choices scattered all around. We loved the Oyaki with green veggies and pickles from the little village as you head towards the temple. It can be a little tricky to find so look for the little restaurant attached to the shop selling teapots and such.
Please consider staying here if you are stopping in Nagano as it only adds to the experience.
