Just newly opened, in the middle of bustling Stone Town, Zenji Hotel welcomes guests for a relaxing stay or a drink on our rooftop. The rooftop offers a beautiful view over Stone Town and the harbor, especially during sunset. We provide free internet facility for our hotel guests!
With only 9 rooms Zenji Hotel offers the guests privacy and a time to rest, with books and games on the rooftop while enjoying a fresh juice, soda, and (spice) tea or espresso coffee. All rooms have a different atmosphere referring to the rich Zanzibar heritage and culture. Rooms have different prices, depending on your taste and choice (balcony, self-contained etc).
The breakfast is served on the rooftop and includes fresh juices and bread, homemade jam, egg of your choice, fruits and tea or espresso coffee.
The hotel is owned by a Zanzibarian-Dutch couple who try to integrate the best of cultures, with traditional Zanzibarian details (such as traditional Zanzibarian beds but Western size), friendly staff, real espresso coffee.
ZenjiHotel is part of the 'ZenjiZanzibar-projects' that aims to create direct or indirect income for rural local community by stimulating local entrepreneurship, encouraging tourists to participate in local tours and providing training on the job. Zenji Zanzibar works together with local organisations, NGO’s, private companies, educational institutions and enthusiastic and motivated persons.

Nice and clean rooms (with lovely names instead of room numbers). The breakfast is served on the roof terrace, which may not have the best view and some noise from the outside road, but is nice and airy. Cold drinks were available in the fridge all the time on a self served basis. The internet tended to have bad reception in the rooms, you had to sit in the cafe or on the roof top for it to be good. The walk for central Stone town was about ten minutes.
All in all, I would recommend this place.

Zenji Hotel has a great location if you need to stay somewhere close to the ferry station before leaving, or maybe just as you are arriving. I would not recommend it for longer stays. Even though on the website it indicated that it could process credit cards, and even had a sign on the board, this was not the case, and left me in quite the pickle on a Sunday trying to find a working ATM. The internet did not work in my room. The shower did not work, and despite saying there was hot water, this was not the case. I would not stay there again.

We stayed in the Zenji Hotel for a couple of days while exploring Stone Town and it was a fantastic place to stay. In a good location just a couple of minutes walk from the ferry terminal it is easy to find.
All the staff were very helpful and the rooms were plenty big enough with good a/c and a very good bed.
It is on the main road, so might be worth having some ear plugs but don't let that put you off. When we stayed it was the start of Ramadan and I slept well without them.
The roof top terrace is a lovely place to start the day with fantastic food for breakfast and throughout the day (you must try the chocolate brownie simply amazing for brunch or afternoon tea or for anytime come to think of it!)

Prompt service, staff always available to attend to any requests. Clean rooms but very noisy on main road. Distance to stonetown not too far but felt safer catching taxi at night on way home bout 10 min walk to night markets on beach. Overall good budget hotel.

Was OK overall but the shower didnt work for the whole time we were there... which meant sharing a bathroom.
Also had a ring stolen from the bathroom I had to shower in.. this obviously isnt the hotels fault but still dampened our stay.

A very good hotel. An excelent location, friendly staff, clean, nice rooms, good breakfast, a very good service. Highly reccomended.
In low seasons you can bargain about the price of the room and the tours.

Thanks to the owners, Anneloes and Mani, the Zenji has a genuine personal touch that is difficult to find elsewhere. Good value for money. I recommend Zenji to everyone. Their attention to detail makes a difference. My Zanzibar trip was made more memorable by their friendly service.
