Hostal Dominico Mundial is a budget hotel with 14 rooms. Located in the heart of the oldest city in the New World. If you want to see all the historic places and buildings in Santo Domingo, then you must select our hotel to understand the charme of the Colonial City.
We are directly in front of Parque Duarte where you can sit and enjoy the soft breezes with the locals. As you walk out of our front door you will be surrounded with many of the oldest sights in the city. Within view of our door is the ruins of the Monastery and Church of the Dominican Order and we are only 1 1/2 blocks from the main shopping street in the old city, Calle el Conde.
Inside our hotel, in our patio, you enjoy in the morning the Dominican Coffee for free and the whole day it's one of the silences place in the capital. All water used throughout the hotel, we keep chlorine all the time.

There was a cockroach in the bathroom, the fridge did not close and perishable food had a short shelf life, the room was not so clean, the bedroom door did not close properly and the TV did not work. The owner's cat is not well looked after, the poor animal was so thirsty that it desperately tried to get into the bathroom so that it could drink water out of the toilet bowl. The management took two days to fix the TV and refused to replace the broken door lock, telling me that I was not jiggling it properly to make it work. They kept the change from my payment for the room and they insisted on me giving them a tip. On the plus side, the location was excellent and the hotel was reasonably quiet.

This was the WORST place i have stayed during my 4 month of travelling. Staff gives information only against tip, they also never have change they also call it tip and keep it. But the most incredible about this place was that an employee of the place expected a payment to give me back my camera, i had to return accompanied by a policeman in order to get my camera back. This place is a strict NO NO NO.

Without doubt this was a disaster from beginning to end. We were supposed to be in a $39 dollar room and we were ushered into a small filthy room where the AC was not working and neither was the fridge. The fan rotated so fast I felt the room would take off.
We complained and were then shown into another room. If anything this room was worse in that there was no mains supply to the fridge, the AC or the water heater. We were forced to take cold showers. We complained again and were shown into another room w where the lock on the door jammed and the key sheared. We had to leave the room open and therefore we had some articles taken from the fridge and my medication was taken. I suffer from diabetes and it was therefore imperative that I got emergency medication from a Pharmacy.
When we paid the balance of our bill when we arrived we had no change and I was owed $5. This equates to 185 pesos and it was obvious that unless we continually reminded the lady at reception we were not going to get our change. She reluctantly gave us 100 pesos and said she would give us the rest later.
She was insulting to me and my wife and we had to fight hard to get my medication payment refunded.
We had a nightmare three days in this hell hole and I would not recommend it to anyone. We went to Boca Chica and found a clean, well kept hotel with friendly staff who could not do enough for us. By the way we were able to get a 10 day deal for $35 per night and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. BUT PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HOSATL DOMINICO MUNDIAL.
