Youth hostels don\'t come much more charming than this one.Even the lobby(which doubles up as a chic wi-fi cafe),with its high ceilings and brightly painted walls,is a joy to be in.But it\'s the rooms,all sightly different,that really stand out. Although on the small side,all are beautifully decorated with cosy furniture,flower-patterned wallpaper and gathered-up curtains,and all come with wall-mounted flat-screen TV and a funky little bathroom.The two most expensive -tulip and rose -have private balconies overlooking pleasant Duolun Rd.Dorms are small,but neat and clean.Internet is free.
This beautiful building offers our guests the chance not only to see Shanghai\'s history but also to sleep in it! The restoration is added by modern facilities without spoiling its character and guests can be secured by our conscientious staff, security card system and commitment to the highest standards. A bar in the lobby is also available with various drinks, featuring Italian coffee--illy. Delicious foods including pizza, pasta, some great snacks are also served. Our mission is to provide comfortable, secure, clean and spacious accommodation to budget traveler. Don\'t just see Shanghai\'s history; but to know it, live in it !

The place is beautifully renovated, but our stay would have been much more pleasant if certain things were conducted differently. I had a shock when I bumped into a 'hotel guest' coming out from the common bathroom dressed only in briefs and still wet. Turned out he happened to be a hotel staff. The same staff was walking about with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth on the next day, while we were trying to log on to the net. Being non-smokers, we absolutely hate it when forced to inhale cigarette smoke in a non-smoking environment. Internet facility is free, but one terminal wasn't working, whereas we couldn't even access into the internet on the other PC. There's absolutely nil information to be gained if one is interested in getting about the places of interest. There's a second floor balcony which could have been converted into an outdoor sitting area, but instead was used as a laundry area. It is an absolute eye sore. All in all we were thankful that we only stayed one night as the room was really tiny and quite uncomfortable for two persons to be moving about with all the luggage.

The history of this building and the area is amazing. The staff were excellent in helping with directions and the location is within five minutes to the subway. The food and drinks from their resturant were of excellent value and amazing in taste. I would highly recommended this hostel to anyone, also they have private rooms available. The charm of this place is refreshing in an era of steel and concrete.

Awesome 2days in Shanghai in this hostel with one of the best staff crew ever...
Hope they'll enjoy the smoked salmon I left on their fridge :-)
I highly recommend this place, located 15min (~20RMB) from the center.
