This is a family-run hotel a short distance from Heraklion city (20 minutes by bus, 10 minutes from airport).
This year-round hotel offers an affordable alternative to city-center hostels and budget hotels. It is a registered 3-star hotel with pool, a fridge and TV in all rooms, private balconies and air conditioning (optional extra)
Recently refurbished, the Prince of Lillies really does represent good value for money - it's an ideal place for a little luxury during your journeys, even if it does cost a little more than the others.

Locatiegegevens
From Astoria Square (Freedom Square) in Heraklion take the Number 7 bus almost to the end of the line (about 20 minutes). The stop is opposite the Astoria hotel, not in front of it. There is a taxi rank there, go to the front of the rank, there's a kiosk there to get your ticket: (Euro 1.30, get a ticket before getting on the bus). It is best to ask the driver for ‘Karteros’ which is more or less where he's ending up anyway. He will know the name of the hotel. It might be more cost effective to get a taxi if there are a few of you. It should cost no more than Euro 10 - but ask first! If you get stuck call us.

The overall hotel is definately worth staying in if you don't require being close to the centre of Heraklion or an abundance of tourist amenities.
The hotel was very close to the airport which was perfect for us as we used the hotel as a stop of before getting a ferry to Santorini.
The owner was very friendly and her knowledge and helpfulness was invaluable. What was particularly helpful was her knowledge on Santorini, and she was key in us acquiring the accomodation we required at our next destination. This just indicates how far she will go to help the people that stay with her!
The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed for our short stay. We didn't eat at the hotel but the bar area seemed nice.
Pretty good value and the breakfast was great (especially the greek yoghurt!). Room was cleaned daily and had a balcony wifi, and satellite TV, but air con/heating is an additional 4 euro per day which seemed a little steep - though we didn't really need it anyway so wasn't an issue. Location ok- around 20mins on the local bus into Heraklion. The beach very close. Staff pretty friendly. We arrived pretty early and were able to have breakfast quite soon after we arrived which was nice. There was some kind of mix-up with our room - we had booked a double room originally but it wasn't ready and we ended up with a twin. Fridge in the room was really handy. Brett, the English guy who manages bookings and does breakfast was quite friendly and happy to give tips on how to get to places of interest, but made a few comments about people coming to breakfast right before it finishes (pretty common in all the hotels we've been in), eating a lot, and asking for maps which he doesn't have as "nobody ever returns them".. strange as you are usually allowed to keep maps provided to you, and it's not difficult to make photocopies. On one of our last nights the clocks changed for daylight saving, so we missed breakfast the next day as nobody at the hotel advised guests of the change or put up a sign which would have been quite helpful (other guests also were unaware of this change and apparently nearly missed their flights). Also noticed Brett's rather acerbic response to somebody else's review... Overall would recommend the hotel if you want to be within easy reach of the airport and don't mind being a bit further away from Heraklion center.
