BUDGET ACCOMMODATION IN FRANSCHHOEK: Addey & Alta Malherbe would like to invite you to the Food and Wine capital of the Cape Winelands in South Africa. A town made for wine tasting, eating, hiking, cycling, walks, sightseeing, etc. This is not a B&B and not self-catering.
Four lovely rooms in a pre 1910 house right in the centre of the town, walking distance from all amenities.We have a basic room (Verandah) with a double bed, toilet, bidet, basin and shower in the room. We have a standard room (Passage Room) with a double bed, shower, basin and toilet en-suite. We have a De Luxe room (De luxe) with a kingsize bed which can be made into two single beds if you wish with a large complete bathroom consisting of bath, double basins, bidet, toilet and large shower en-suite.
We also have a singles room for the single travellers or those who do not wish to share a double bed. This section of the house consists of a room with two single beds and one single bed in the adjoining lounge. The room has a shower, basin, bidet & toilet en-suite. This section can be booked by 3 people provided they are prepared to share the bathroom. One person may book a single bed and will not be extpected to share with anyone else.
Situated in the centre of the town, 1-minute walking distance from the main centre of town, shops and restaurants. Easy access to private entrances. Secure parking.
No smoking allowed in the rooms.
Cash/ Electronic Fund Transfer Only - NO Credit card facilities. ATM\'s available just around the corner from us.
A complimentary breakfast consisting of yogurt, muffin and fruit is included in the room rate together with tea and coffee.

RSSI think in general Franschhoek is expensive at it caters for an International market - but we found the affordability and value for money at this Guest house top notch . The Service was very good and we felt at home. This was our second stay at this guest house on a round trip in the Western Cape.
The room was clean and the bed was one of the best ive slept in and there was an electric blanket that ensured a warm bed! The feel is that of a farmhouse - its unpretentious and offers you a comfortable sleep. The bathroom was beautiful and the option of a bath was great as it was quite a chilly winters day. This is something different to the norm and in that way i would suggest it to travelers who want good value accommodation to enjoy more of the wonderful food and wine this town offers!!

Our experience of van Wijk Street was overtly negative.
I found the size and type of room a complete rip-off.
Upon arrival, the room was FREEZING! The linen was old and the duvet was thin..
There were no curtains in the room. Horrible...There was little privacy in the room as the toilet was exposed.
I would never recommend this place and have travelled extensively around the globe and have stayed in expensive and budget accommodation.

First of all I would like to mention that staying at 22 Van Wijk Street Guest Rooms in one of the last pre-1910 houses left in Franschhoek town centre is an experience in itself.
I am most surprised at the review on your site. This is the first rating below 90% in 3 years of running the rooms. When speaking to Jane Mills the morning before they arrived she asked if they could arrive at 13:45 instead of 14:00. They then only arrived at 14:30. I do not know whether they were late for a function or what put her in a bad mood. She was in a huff and my husband could not even explain the use of the light, etc. in the room to them. All my rooms have only lace curtains to let in light. The bottom section of the window glass has been sandblasted for privacy. The shower in the room is enclosed with sandblasted glass and also the toilet and bidet. Only the basin is exposed, as can be seen on the protographs of the verandah room on internet.
After her complaint about the cold room, my husband immediately provided them with a heater for the room and he went out and bought a new fan heater for the room. Just as well, as when he took the new heater to the room, after they had left, to exchange the heaters, he found the original heater on full blast. Jane could, in fact, have set the house alight if we did not discover this.
The bed has an electric blanket which I always switch on in the evening while my visitors are out. Upon checking the room I found that the electric blanket had already been switched on to the highest heat possible.
It is very clear to me that it must have been their first visit to Franschhoek. I am sure the type of accommodation she was looking for would not have cost less than R800 per person sharing (hardly budget accommodation). Accommodation in Franschhoek ranges from R110 per person sharing per night at our local Lodge to R10 000 per person sharing at the boutique hotels.---- end property response ----

22 Van Wijk street was just lovely...very central, the owners are just lovely - so friendly and accommodating - and the room we had was modern yet rustic and very comfortable. Very good value for a central place to stay in Franschhoek.

We stayed at 22 Van Wijkstreet in the beautifull Franschhoek for 1 night, at the 27th of August. It was so lovely! It is a beautifull, typical south-african house with lovely apartments/rooms. Alta & Alherbe made us feel at home immediatly, and they helped us with everything we could asked them! The bed was great (there was even an electric blanket we could use in case we got cold), the bathroom really neat and the service was outstanding (we needed to leave really early the next day, so Alta even made a little breakfast to go the day before)! Also it is right in the centre of the lovely little town, so after dinner we could easily walk back to the accomodation. If we ever have the opportunity to go back to Fransschoek, we will most defenitly come back to this place!

The land lord is awesome and his wife is more awesome. however the properly is just suitable for a day or two. The hospitality is really like home coming.
Would recommend this to anyone. The location is simply superb.

I cannot praise this accommodation enough. The bed was comfortable, the fan quiet, as much mountain spring water as you could drink was provided, and locked off street parking was available.
The lady who runs it is an ex PA who knows about all things local, can sort anything, and is happy to help whenever needed! They were so great I felt like I was visiting friends.
