La Luna is a tranquil country hostel situated in the beautiful green mountains that surround the town of Otavalo, famous for it’s Indian crafts market.

We’re just 4km from the town centre (easily reached on foot or by taxi ) but it feels a world away as up here we enjoy tranquility, stunning mountain scenery, clean air and a highly relaxed atmosphere.

So we’re the perfect place from which to visit the market (held everyday of the year though bigger on Saturdays and Wednesdays) and also enjoy some beautiful Andean scenery in a peaceful countryside setting, far from the noise and chaos of Otavalo.

It’s also a great base from which to do some first class walking, hiking, and climbing all of which can be organized by us.

The Otavalo area and it’s many delights (Mojanda Lakes, Cuicocha Lake, Imbabura Volcano, Indigenous Villages etc ) are also easily explored from here.

If all that sounds too strenuous for you then why not just relax in a hammock and enjoy our great views (all the way to Colombia ), tasty homemade food (from the organic gardens ), real coffee, fine music (live Andean music on Saturday) and a friendly homely atmosphere.

La Luna is located in a very friendly community where you will always receive a Buenos Dias and a smile from passers by. A walk through this beautiful area gives you a fascinating incite into the rural way of life of the local people. Traditional farming techniques are still widely used in this highly fertile area.

Our helpers all live locally and will be pleased to let you try out your Spanish on them, however poor it may be. You’ll also meet travelers of all descriptions from all around the world.

Where are we?

We`re situated at an altitude of 3000m, high in the stunning Andes of Northern Ecuador.We`re just 4km from Otavalo and can be easily reached by taxi (US$3) or on foot.The walk from La Luna to Otavalo is particularly picturesque and takes a little under 1 hour.

* BUSES:

Monday to Friday 13:00 PM AND 18:00 PM

*TRUCKS:

Monday to Friday 11:45 AM AND 12:15 PM / 16:45 PM AND 17:15 PM

Saturday and Sunday 10:00 PM UNTIL 14:00 PM

ADRESS: Sucre Street and Piedrahita Street

Departure times are approximate and trucks leave when full.

* TAXIS:

Take taxis at any time pay $3 or $4 to the hostel

NOTE: BUSES AND PICK UP TRUCKS GO PASS HOSTEL AROUND 25 TO 30 MINUTES AFTER THEY LEAVE THE OTAVALO.
