Over Avonside Guest House

This is a friendly family run Hostel and has been around for 60 years. Comfortable, clean and in a great central location.

So-named due to its location, right next to the River Avon, this Guesthouse has been around for as long as anyone can remember (at least 60 years), so it must be doing something right. Small, friendly and full much of the time, it's especially popular with people wanting a to see the sites of Bristol and surronding areas in the South West.

It is one mile from Bristol Temple Meads Train station, 1.5 miles from Bristol Bus Station and 10 minutes from Bristol Historic Harbourshide and the SS Great Brittan. Most of Bristols resturant, theatres and night life are based around the Harbourside.

As it is family run there is alot of flexibility and we cater for every one from couples wanting a city break, families with children to large groups of tourists. It's located on a busy main road, 10 minutes by foot from the city centre harbour area (where most of the action and some great attractions are these days), so is very handily-placed. Guests are given keys, so no need to worry about draconian curfews.

The service was great! A good atmosphere of mutual trust, Alison was always very helpful and merry all the time!

The only minor suggestion that I would have is that maybe it would be good to clean the toilets and showers a bit more often if there are a lot of people staying :) Then I think I would give five stars for the value-price, otherwise it is a four.

But this is a minor thing (as it was clean, really!). A very fine touch was the quality of the room, with TV, a kettle and a stock of tea, coffe, milk and sugar renewed daily (and my personal favourite: a very comfortable bed!), and rich breakfasts with a very satisfying choice of food available until the afternoon. Also, the location is perfect, as it is within walking distance both from the station (Temple Meads), and the City Centre (e.g. a lot of touristic attractions, University facilities etc).

So all in all, when I'm in Bristol again, I'll definetly stay in the Avonside Guest House!
