Mrs Tanaka made us feel very welcome, on arivel she brought us some green tea and latter on she brought us some strawberries!. Her English is Ok she help us out when and where to eat. this location is off the beaten track so not as touristy as other parts of Gion. dont delay in booking because she does not have many rooms!! you will get the true felling of being in traditional Japan.

This the most wonderful little ryokan we have stayed in! It is perfectly located in the heart of Gion, with beautiful latern lined streets. The rooms are of perfect size and are truly traditional Japanese. Perfectly clean and well kept by a wonderful and charming host. We booked two nights here and then had two nights booked at another guesthouse along the lane...sadly it was freezing in the other place, and it was not a patch on the service and comfort of Tanaka-ya. Because it was so cold (as our room was next to the open rooftop) we came back to Tanaka-ya and managed to book another two nights here (cancelling our reservation and losing money at other place - but it was completely worth it!)
PWe loved our stay in Tanaka-ya and will most definitely come back here. It is perfect in every way, we highly recommend!

This is the perfect place to stay in Koyoto!
In the heart of the geisha areas with beautiful streets/shops/restaurants/history.
Ideal for short stays. Very friendly atmosphere. 10/10. Perfect.
