Broadmeadows, Yarrowford, Schotland

Broadmeadows was the first SYHA Youth Hostel, opened in 1931. This small, friendly hostel is set in the historic Scottish borders, where there's plenty to see and do.

Visit the ruins of Newark Castle and Yarrow Kirk. A private museum in Selkirk depicts a bygone age. A base for mountain bikers, only a half hour drive from the superb Glentress Forest mountain bike trails. Walkers can go by the Southern Upland Way via the Minchmuir Road to Traquair House, museum and brewery. There's good fishing and pony trekking locally as well as some very scenic cycle routes. See bunnies, pheasants, sheep, highland cows and much more in the flowery gardens nearby.

From Selkirk, take the A708 for 8 kms. Turn (right) up track before the telephone box in Yarrowford for 1.25 kms
