The private 2, private 3 and shared 4 are in the main building.
Free pick up shuttle from Fubasami on the JR Nikko Line or Shimogoshiro on the Tobu Nikko Line. We can�t pick up at JR or Tobu Nikko.
Zen Hostel is in a remote location away from the tourist area on a river in what was a Japanese hot-spring inn. There are no souvenir shops and no city lights. Only stars, trees and mountains. You can swim in the river (KuroKawa 黒川) at the hostel and short hikes are nearby. Nikko Japan is the 3rd largest city in Japan by land size so enjoy nature for a few days, there is so much to see here.
All rooms are Japanese tatami style (private rooms have locks on doors) with futons (free internet in the common room) and include a full western breakfast.
Every morning our free shuttle takes guest to UNESCO World Heritage (Toshogu Shrine, Futarasan Shrine, Rinnoji Temple, Shinkyo Bridge).
Families with children are best in the annex private rooms for the most privacy. Over 6 years old charged regular price. Snorers have to sleep in the private annex riverside rooms. As a hostel, community is very important.

RSSBeautiful place along a stunning river with an excellent American host serving a good western style breakfast. We have spent three great days here and have had a very good time indeed. It is an excellent place to stay for those who want to explore the magnificent Nikko World Heritage Area, but also for those who like hiking a lot. Thanks to the free shuttle service offered by the hostel it was very easy to get around. In the Obu-Nikko area there are several beautiful and well indicated hikes, some of them also described in the Lonely Planet Hiking in Japan. In summer there are frequent buses from Nikko that take you straight to the hiking trails. For the less adventurous, the area around the hostel is very pretty as well. Zen hostel is a comfortabel place to stay and it has some unique facilities that we really enjoyed, such as a shower room overlooking the river and high speed wifi connections. And the river itself of course; really nice for swimming or just cooling down. Highly recommended.

If you are seeking holidays far from the lights and sounds of the city, Zen provides this first class opportunity. Located next to the river and surrounded by trees, Zen hostel sets a great environment for relaxing. The service is great, the hostel owners are trying their best to make everyone happy from daylight until late at night, thank you Zen hostel!!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Zen Hostel. Nikko was great and their place was perched above a beautiful river surrounded by trees. We ate well, slept well, and escaped the Tokyo summer!!!
Also, special thanks to Scout for accomodating 7 people with little notice.
