Have you ever been to a hostel, felt like a stranger even afraid to ask for a way to a closest metro station?Not gonna happen here, based on my own experience The Meeting Place could be your temporary HOME for one night or forever :-) after all ..its all about people and their attitude to help you out with anything you need...and that is definitely something you can count on here!!!!

PROS - Very nice owner with fluent English. The place is clean and there's plenty of lounge space including a projector screen and lots of dvds to choose from. It's within easy walking distance from a subway station as well as a night market.

CONS - It was very cold when I visited in January, even after layering on the blankets. This hostel is located in what feels a little bit like a warehouse due to the fact that it's very spacious but there's no insulation or heating. This might be a plus in the hot summer days, but then again, if there wasn't any heating I'm not sure there will be any a/c either. I also got bit to death by mosquitos that seemed more prevalent in this hostel than any of the other hostels in Taiwan I stayed at afterwards. Can't really blame the hostel for having lots of mosquitos though. Just be prepared and bring some deet.

The Meeting Place lives us to its name and exceeded my expectations. The Hostel is located maybe 8-10 minutes from the subway. Near the hostel is a popular market where you can go shopping for clothes and there are also food venders. There is a large fitness center located near the hostel, so that serves as a distinguishable landmark if you do have trouble with navigation. You may even be able to use the facility by paying a fee, but I am not sure. The hostel itself is very spacious with a pleasant and laid back ambiance. There is a lounging area where you can watch movies on a large screen with other guests. There is a table full of information on tourist attractions/things to do, and quite a few tables for eating, sitting, using the internet, or for general fellowship (public computers provided). A drum and guitar sit in the center of the hostel, and are open for use. There is an Ipod port where guests may play their own music. You are allowed to drink alcohol in the hostel, and there was a time allotment when you could receive free beer at night when I visited. The rooms are spacious and clean; you can use a locker for your belongings. When I arrived, my bed was made immediately with freshly cleaned linnens. You are provided with towels for showering and hot water with good pressure. There is no curfew. You can do laundry, too. The location is very near an active night-life scene. The Meeting Place can offer you companionship and dependable customer service. Like any hostel, a lot of the atmosphere is guest generated. If you are worried about sound/light-sensitivies, bring ear plugs and a sleep mask to ensure yourself a good nights' rest. What was most memorable about my experience was the owner's and staff's willingness to help/the hospitality given to me goes beyond what I can write in a review. The owner said they will have some renovations shortly, and it is still relatively new. I only think it will improve. I liked the lounge-like atmosphere and positive environment that the staff and hostel offered, and will stay here upon my next visit! I highly recommend giving The Meeting Place a stay, even if it is your first hostel booking.
